CALLAHAN, Calvin M. Calvin M. Callahan, age 102, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 and heaven is so much sweeter for it. He will be greatly missed, and he has left a legacy that any man would be honored to leave behind. He was born July 3, 1908 in Cherokee, Georgia to Robert Wesley Callahan and Mary Elizabeth Roper. Mr. Callahan served in the United States Marines Corps for 7 years, earning the rank of Sergeant. One of Mr. Callahan's commanding officers in the Marine Corps once said, "I have found him intelligent, loyal and most industrious. In addition, he possesses unusual mechanical ability. His character is of the highest type and he is endowed with a most pleasing personality." He retired from Fulton County as a mechanic after serving for 48 years. He was employed there from 1925 to 1974. He was well-known for his mechanical abilities and maintained hundreds of people's cars at his garage in Mountain Park. He had a great love for automobiles and first started driving his father's Model T Ford Truck at 12. Throughout his life, he owned over 100 cars. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always delighted in spending time with his family. Mr. Callahan is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Eloise "Chick" King of Brunswick, Georgia, his son Jack Callahan, and 8 younger brothers and sisters. He is survived by daughter-in-law Alicia Callahan, daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Nolan Smith, sons and daughters-in-law Don and Pam Callahan and Tim and Gay Callahan; 11 grandchildren: Paul Callahan, Jared Callahan, Heather Conley, Hunter Callahan, Scotty Smith, Mandi Smith, Rusty Smith, Wes Callahan, Corrie Maddux, Dana Callahan Plotts and Haley Callahan; and 15 great-grandchildren: Blake Ralston, Kelsy Callahan, Silas Callahan, Dakota Callahan, Brooke Hart, Taylor Hart, Arianna Clark, Hanna Callahan, Adilynn Callahan, Lucy Callahan, Casen Maddux, Layla Maddux, Baileigh Sellers, Gracie Sellers, and Sadie Conley. Pallbearers are Paul Callahan, Jared Callahan, Wes Callahan, Rusty Smith, Dakota Callahan, Blake Ralston, and honorary Scotty Smith. Services will be held at Northside Chapel in Roswell on January 21, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Scotty Davis officiating. The Callahan family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20 from 6:00PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Georgia. Thanks for the kind messages, but today isn't a day of sorrow, for this isnít the end. It's the beginning of an eternity and a celebration with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
