Catherine Haley Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Catherine Angier Haley, a fifth generation Atlantan, died peacefully Thursday, January 22, 2004. Catherine, the oldest child of Nedom and Madolyn Angier, married John Haley and the couple had two sons, John Hopkins Haley of Jacksonville and Nedom Angier (Carol) Haley of Atlanta. Throughout her professional life, Catherine was involved in the insurance business and retired from Marsh McLennan after 30 years. She also was involved in numerous community activities including Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Altar and Rosary Society, the Third Order of Mary (lay persons of the Marist Order) and the Atlanta Insurance Women's Club. After her retirement she spent numerous hours volunteering at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and offering health insurance counseling to the elderly. She had a passion for gardening and bridge. She loved studying Angier family genealogy and following the revitalization of Oakland Cemetery, where her ancestors are interred. For the past four years, Catherine has lived in Jacksonville, Florida. Surviving Catherine, in addition to her two sons, are four grandchildren: Angier Haley of Atlanta, Patrick and Jarrett Haley of Jacksonville, John Haley of Hilton Head, her namesake, Catherine Chapman, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be at Sacred Heart Church, Monday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. with Father Lawrence Schmuhl, S. M. of the Marist Order presiding. Private burial will be at Westview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marist Society of GA., 3790 Ashford-Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta 30319 or Sacred Heart Church, 353 Peachtree Street, Atlanta 30308. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 6:00 PM at H. M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319..
