Cecil Mize Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Mr. Cecil Mize of Cumming, GA, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 after a prolong illness of Parkinsons Disease. Mr. Mize grew up on a farm in Ashland, GA, Franklin County during the 1920's and 1930's. He attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega and the University of Georgia in Athens, graduating in 1942 with a diploma in one hand and a commission to the U.S. Army with orders in the other hand. Approximately three months later, he was married to Frances Davis of Cumming, GA. Shortly after he was on his way to the European theater in WWII where he served in the Seventh Armored Division and was in the midst of the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged as a captain and soon found himself along with his twin brother, Clyde owning a hardware business in Cumming, GA. The business grew into a mechanical contractor venture as the Mize Brothers recognized the need for more land surveyors and added that to the business. During the 1970's and 80's, the business developed subdivisions, water systems and draw many house plans for Lake Lanier property owners. Mr. Mize was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Cumming having served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was president of Cumming Kiwanis Club and on the first Zoning and Planning Commission in Forsyth County. He also served as a member of the Georgia Health System Agency for years. After retiring in 1986, he enjoyed traveling, photography and learning about computers. He is survived by his wife, Frances, son, Shannon, daughter-in-law, Gail, grandsons, Shan and Alex all of Cumming; brother, John Mize, Metter, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ellaine Mize, Dunwoody. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial service will be held at Ingram Funeral Home Thursday, May 27, 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Boy Scouts of America or Eagle Ranch if so desired. Interment, Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming.
