Family-Placed Death Notice

LAURENS, Charles, Jr. CHARLES COOKE LAURENS, JR. Charles Cooke Laurens Jr., age 88, of Snellville, Georgia died of natural causes on December 27, 2008. Mr. Laurens was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 20, 1920, and was the son of C. Cooke Laurens Sr. and Dorothy Fridley Laurens. He lived in several different cities as a child, including Detroit, New Orleans, Dayton and Columbus Ohio, and New York City (the Bronx), and moved to the Atlanta area in the early 1940s, where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Laurens retired in 1980 after more than 30 years of service as a baker for Colonial Stores. Mr. Laurens was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia Ward Laurens, and by his brother Robert S. Laurens Sr. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Laurens Childs and Dorothy Laurens Yarbrough Thrower; sisters-in-law Dixie P. Laurens, Gloria West, Dorothy Reed, and Carol Price; brothers-in-law James Ward and Robert Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2009 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Home, 6362 South Lee Street, Morrow, Georgia 30260, 770-961-2828, with Dr. Jack Harwell and Dr. Bill Lacy officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the A. G. Rhodes Homes, Inc. (www.agrhodes.org)
