Charles Loudermilk Obituary

Charlie Loudermilk got his business start in the late 1930s as a 10-year old entrepreneur selling one of Atlanta's most famous products. He and a buddy walked and took street cars from their blue-collar neighborhood on off Howell Mill Road to Buckhead, where they would sell bottled Coca-Colas to people going to movies in what is now the Buckhead Theatre.

In 2008, Loudermilk, the founder of Atlanta based Aaron's furniture and electronics rental, brought his life full circle by stroking a seven-figure check to refurbish the rundown former movie palace into a community entertainment venue.

Robert Charles Loudermilk Sr., 95, who helped shape late 20th and early 21st century Atlanta through his businesses and his philanthropy funded by those successes, died Tuesday from the effects of a stroke, his son Robert C. "Robin" Loudermilk said.

Dear Robin,Linda,and Lydia,
I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing.
He was a wonderful man. When I talked with him, he told me to be strong and create my our business. I did. His words of courage meant the world to me. I will always remember the time he asked mother & I to lunch with his long time friends & business
men. He acknowledged his love & respect for his Uncle Durrell Pinkard. The many Christmas times they all shared when Charlie was a young man.
My mother, Mary Elizabeth Pinkard, and myself, Mary Lynn loved your grandmother, our Aunt Addie.
and your father.
My sincere sympathy,
Mary Lynn Gaglioti

It is so wonderful to read about the impact of Charlie's life. In the final analysis, a life well-lived is marked by a wholehearted love of God and love of neighbor. How we need more examples of that in our time and place!!

It was an honour and a delight to spend time with Charlie, Robin, Ken and other members of Aarons superb top team. We certainly learned a lot to apply in London and throughout the UK. And we enjoyed and much appreciated their unfailing kindness and hospitality.

Sending prayers to all of you during this time. Know we are with you and praying for your peace and comfort. From family to the city of Atlanta and beyond, this leaves a big hole. May it always be filled with wonderful memories and a great legacy of hard work, humor, and giving to others. So grateful for the time together.

Had the honor of meeting him and had a couple of conversations with him through the years. First time we spoke about the Sales and Lease business and the other time we spoke about Coolidge and his farm. He loved this area and will be missed. My sincerest condolences. Thoughts and prayers are with the family.

So sorry for your loss. Your dad was a great man. I know you will enjoy telling stories about him. He and my dad Don Dutson were dearest of friends for decades. Pop died 7 years ago and I love telling stories about those two. It makes me smile thinking they are playing golf, hunting and fishing together like they did when they were a little younger. Prayers for the family and rest in peace dear Charlie.
