Dr. Clyde Rountree

ROUNTREE, Dr. Clyde B. (June 4, 1935 - August 24, 2015) Dr. Clyde Branan Rountree passed away Monday. His wife of more than 50 years, Billie Jo, and sons were at his side. Dr. Rountree practiced psychiatry from the early 1960s until his retirement in 2014. He worked in private practice in Decatur, GA for nearly 25 years beginning in 1968. He served as Chief of Staff of DeKalb General Hospital (today's DeKalb Medical Center) from 1977-1979. Dr. Rountree also served two terms as Chief of Psychiatry at DeKalb General where he helped lead the effort to create the psychiatric program at DeKalb. He served as Medical Director of DeKalb Medical Center Psychiatric Services for ten years, and served as the President of the DeKalb Medical Society in 1985. After retiring from private practice, he was Medical Director of GRN Mental Health and Highland Rivers Mental Health Services. He continued to care for patients, treating many pro bono until retirement. Dr. Rountree was born in Atlanta and earned his medical degree from Indiana University, receiving the prestigious Roche Award for outstanding student. He married Billie Jo in July 1965 and entered the U.S. Army as a Captain. The Rountrees settled in St. Mountain, retired in Marietta, and are members of Episcopal Church of the Annunciation. Dr. Rountree is survived by his wife, Billie Jo, sons Mark (Angela), Michael (Patricia) and Mason Bradley (Ana), and eight grandchildren Marcela, Mattie, Camila, Branan, Vivian, Mason, Emma and Caroline.
