Cole STRATTON Obituary

STRATTON, Cole With deep sadness, we announce the death of Cole Stratton on November 21, two days before his 92nd birthday. He died after a short illness in his home at Canterbury Court in Atlanta. Cole was born in Washington DC to Elizabeth Campbell Stratton and Lynn Stratton and was married for 68 years to Joan Minot Stratton. He served in the United States Air Force in World War II and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Lehigh University. Cole spent most of his career in the Corporate Engineering Department of The Coca-Cola Company, where his first boss was Roberto Goizueta. A significant career accomplishment was directing the construction of the company's corporate headquarters. Cole was a man of few words, generous and industrious, and devoted to his family and friends. He was an accomplished bridge player, sharp and well read. Cole was also an excellent woodworker and furniture maker, and he crafted several heirloom pieces for his children and grandchildren. His talent extended to other projects, too, including the repair of a steady stream of broken furniture at Canterbury, grumbling a little about their sad condition, but always getting the job done. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons Andy (Linda), David (Ginny), Steve (Cheryl) and Richard (Denise); grandchildren Clif (Kristen), Mark (Kattie), Christina, Caroline, Sam, and Aina Claire; great-grandchildren Valentina, Inman, Livie and Lane; and his brother, Richard. A memorial service for Cole will be held at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 6, at 2:00 pm. Donations in Cole's honor may be made to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church where he was an active member for many years.
