Daniel Rado Obituary

RADO, Daniel DANIEL WELLER RADO Born Sept 26, 1922 NY City, died peacefully at home on Nov 12, 2014. He served in the US Navy, Pacific Theatre in WWII, married his childhood sweetheart, Hilda Karp in 1946. He made his living in the leather industry as a Sales and Operations Manager and moved to Atlanta in 1981. Dan was a great humanitarian in every community in which he lived and was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church of Malverne, NY, Trinity Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, St Simons Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church of Gainesville. For 73 years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, a leader at many levels, inspired by and inspiring others through multiple visits to Philmont Boy Scout Ranch, NM. Dan served as a Major in the Georgia Defense Force (1985-2005) and as Door Keeper at the State of Georgia General Assembly, Docent and Blacksmith at the Atlanta and Gainesville History Centers. He was a board and committee member at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville. A man of goodwill, Dan was ever the optimist. Throughout his many endeavors he was a true ambassador of the Greatest Generation. This patriot is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Hilda, his two sisters, Jeanne Cassidy of NY, Lorraine Williamson of FL, his son Bruce Rado and daughter-in-law Andrea Gernazian Rado, grandchildren Olivia and Nyle Rado all of Atlanta and a host of other extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held Sat, Dec 6, 1pm Lanier Village Estates Chapel, 3700 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA, 30506, 678-450-3000, Reception to follow in the auditorium. Dan was an excellent Scouter. He just came into my memory and though he passed over a decade ago, my condolences to his family. I knew him as part of the Order of the Arrow almost forty years ago. A life changer!
