David LACY Obituary

LACY, David M. April 5, 1931 - Oct. 20, 2017 Zebulon----Mr. David Milton Lacy, age 86, of Zebulon, passed away October 20, 2017, at his home. He was born in Atlanta. He graduated from Darlington School, Rome, GA, in 1949, and Emory University in 1953, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force as an officer from 1953 to 1955. He was an Aircraft Controller and spent 13 months in Alaska. Mr. Lacy began his career with Pollock Paper Co. (later St. Regis Paper Co.) and left in 1969, after serving as Assistant Manager of the Southeastern Division. He then formed his own company which sold packaging and food ingredients in the Southeastern United States. He later merged his company into McGahee, Lacy and Associates where he worked until his retirement in 1996. He was Chairman of the Board of both the Lacy Investment Corp. and The Lacy Foundation. After retirement, he divided his time between his farm in Pike County, GA, and his family home in Highlands, NC. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He was a founding member of Atlanta Country Club, a life member of Capital City Club, and a longtime member of Highlands Country Club. He served as a forty year Trustee of Darlington School, ending as a Life Trustee. He was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, and Associate Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, NC. He was active in many civic organizations including the Salvation Army and CARE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F. Lacy and Haden T. Lacy, and granddaughter, Shannon Cara Lacy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years: Jo Ann Unger Lacy; children: David M. Lacy, Jr., Lynda L. Ramseur (James), and Douglas F. Lacy (Carol); grandchildren: Erin M. Lacy, J. Ryan Ramseur (MaryBec), Rebecca Ramseur Klinger (Zach), Katherine Lacy Robinson (Woodrow), Benjamin A. Lacy; great-grandchildren: HaydenMarie Robinson and Woodrow Douglas Robinson. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, October 24, 6-8 p.m., at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, Zebulon. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, at 11 a.m., in Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs. The Reverend Lee Bowman will officiate. A reception will follow at Capital City Club, Brookhaven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Rd., SW, Rome, GA 30161 or First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, 471 Main St., Highlands, NC 28741.
