Dave and I were teenagers working for King Hardware on 10th street in Atlanta. The war was raging in Korea. Just prior to being drafted, Thurman, as he was known at the time, joined the Navy. He liked to say, "everybody has to do their duty, I´m doing mine and Tommy´s".

Although we did not meet until our teen years, Dave was the closest I ever came to having a brother. In adulthood we lived in different states and saw each other only occasionally, but each of us knew the other was there if we ever needed the comfort or encouragement of a true friend. I had the privilege to make some of my first outside sales calls with Dave. I could not have selected a better example.
