Don Oberdorfer Jr.

1931 - 2015

OBERDORFER, Jr., Don 1931-2015 Don Oberdorfer, Jr. died peacefully with his family by his bedside on July 23, 2015 after a long struggle against Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Atlanta, GA and attended Druid Hills Schools. His profession as a journalist took him around the world. He and his wife, Laura, lived in Washington, DC. The longtime diplomatic correspondent for the Washington Post and chairman emeritus of the U.S.- Korea Institute at SAIS, Don was a kind and gentle man with a big heart, inquisitive mind, and a deep dedication to his craft. His zeal for life and impish sense of humor will be sorely missed. Don is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laura; his children, Daniel and Karen; Dan's wife Evelyn, and his brother, Eugene Oberdorfer and wife, Saralyn and their children, Michael, Julie Leibel and Robin Kottman of Atlanta, GA. A Memorial Service, where friends and family shared remembrances of Don, was held at Ingleside at Rock Creek on Saturday, August 1, 2015 with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to make contributions in Don's memory donate to the Class of 1952 Memorial Fund, Princeton University, Alumni and Donor Records, P.O.
