Edward KLEIN Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

KLEIN III, Edward April 15, 1950 - Dec. 2, 2013 Edward William Klein, III, better known as Kip Klein, a dedicated family man, attorney and public servant, died from complications with Parkinson 's disease at his home in Marietta surrounded by his loving family. He was 63. Kip, born and raised in Atlanta, received a B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the Dean Rusk School of Law at the University of Georgia. Channeling his passion for family values, he practiced family law in Marietta and took great joy in bringing families together through adoptions. In 2000 he received the "Angels in Adoption" award for the State of Georgia. Always driven by strong conviction, selflessness, and a passion for public service, Kip was elected to serve as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1990 and thoughtfully represented the people of his district from 1991-1997. He served as a member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Feed the Hungry Foundation, and a deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta. Kip was active not only in his local community but in the international community as well. He was chosen to be the envoy to Kuwait for the Atlanta Olympic Committee and to interact on a good will mission on behalf of the State of Georgia in the European Parliament by the European Community Visitors Programme. Kip, who strongly believed in being a leader for young people, loved teaching them the joyous parts of his job and by his example showing them the benefit of uncompromising integrity and family values. Kip was known to many as a delightfully unassuming man who was never at a loss for words. Always equipped with a charming and witty comment, he could lighten nearly any situation. Even as his health failed him, Kip continued to display an unwavering loyalty and devotion to his family. Kip will be remembered as an exceptionally intelligent and good-humored man who loved passionately his God, his family, his country, and the State of Georgia. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of compassion, strength, and service. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sharon, daughters, Tate Ferguson and her husband, David, Brittany Hunter and her husband, Alexander, and Shannon Klein, brother, Danny Klein, granddaughter, Austen Hunter, and extended family: his step-mother, Winifred Klein, step-sister, Caroline Alford, step-brothers, Dan Boone, Major Boone, Carl Boone, Bill Boone, and Bob Boone. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward William Klein Jr. and his mother, Dorothy Couch Klein. A visitation of family will be held on Friday December 6, 2013 at 2 PM and memorial service will be held at 3 PM in the chapel of First Baptist Woodstock. I was sorry to find out about Kip's death just recently. I know it's more difficult to lose family during the hoiidays; my prayers are with you, as are Michael's and my mother's.

Kip's friends at his undergrad alma mater, the University of Virginia, are saddened to hear this news. More than 40 years ago, Kip was already demonstrating leadership qualities at U.Va., and he attained senior positions in the Cavalier Daily student newspaper and the Student Council. Kip was an energetic, optimistic, positive force throughout life--though he was taken much too soon. (I still recall his strong advocacy of Sam Nunn in 1972, as he instructed us all on the meaning of his poster, "Nunn Better". My sincere condolences to his family--and I know others here, when they learn of Kip's passing, will do the same.

Condolences to Sharon and family. Kip was a wonderful man. A servant leader. We met nearly 35 years ago as members of Sen. Sam Nunn's Youth Committee. 1991, we were sworn in together as members of the Georgia House. It was my pleasure to know Kip and serve with him. Your family shall remain in my thoughts and prayers.

My sympathy to Kip's family. We were classmates at UGA School of Law and frequently ran into each other in various county courthouse while we were practicing. He was a wonderful, caring and charming person. He will be greatly missed by many.
