Eloise Quillian Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Eloise Hopkins Quillian of Atlanta, GA died September 15, 2005. She was born on March 18, 1915 and lived in Chicago, Illinois with her parents, Mabel and Maurice Hopkins until they moved to Atlanta in 1923. She attended Tenth St. School, E. Rivers School and graduated from the North Avenue Presbyterian School (NAPS). She attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Emory University in 1936, becoming one of the first women graduates of their business school. She worked in the advertising department of High's Department Store and for the printing firm, Albert Love Enterprise, Inc. She was an active participant in her husband's business for over 30 years. She married fellow Emory graduate, J. Albert Quillian in 1943. They were married for 48 years until his death in 1991. They were charter members of Northside United Methodist Church. She enjoyed travel, art and gardening, especially growing daffodils. The daffodil section in the new Flower Garden at the State Botanical Garden has been given in honor of Eloise and Albert Quillian. She had a quick wit and a sharp mind throughout her life and instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of a good education and a strong faith. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Frank Vinson, Milledgeville, Chris and David Betts, Atlanta, Quill and Steve Duncan, Stone Mountain; 3 granddaughters and 4 grandsons. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of NUMC, Atlanta, GA at 11 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2005. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to: Canine Assistants, 3160 Francis Rd., Alpharetta, GA 30004 or The Salvation Army, 1000 Center Pl., Norcross, GA 30093. Arrangements by National Cremation Society, 770-923-2940.
