1st time I met Felix was at the Masquerade-he did a sketch of me with the downtown skyscrapers in the background -had to be 94/95-still got the picture and would always see him after that-cool guy-had a way of making you comfortable around him!! Thanks for just being Felix you so much to the scene!!

Felix was gracing the door of various clubs through the years, but it was in front of Weekends where he drew and gave me one of his sweet caricatures. Always nice to see Felix's familiar face and be the recipient of his trademark kiss planted on the back of the hand. You made me feel like the Queen of Sheba! Thanks for the smiles, drawing and memories Felix.

Felix was a cool cat with a great sense of humour he will be missed. We are fortunate to have been his friends. There aren't many as humble and kind as he. A rare bird with a deep and unique perspective who wont be forgoten.

Sometimes we don't know the extent of an individual's impact upon ourselves and others until they have left us. It is times like this that the full force of that person's personality and the role they played in our lives becomes crystal clear. I did not get to attend Felix Fleming Jr's funeral but I want to share some thoughts about him with those who knew and loved him.
Many of the people attending the funeral met Felix in the flower of our youth. I was part of the alternative music scene and hung out regularly withy Felix at the usual haunts. What struck me most about Felix was the fact he could hang out with everyone. Skinheads and Punks Death Rockers and Metal Heads Rasta's and New Wavers Yuppies and homeless people. It just didn't matter. When you first meet him Felix looks imposing. After speaking with him you immediately had the sense of his kindness and his gentle spirit. I am sure this fact was mentioned numerous times during the service. You knew that Felix was one of the good guys. That he looked out for those kids, for most of us were just that, kids. He was street wise but not hard. He was giant in stature and in heart.
I watched, on occasion, new people meeting Felix for the first time. At the beginning some would be wary and as soon as they realized there was nothing to fear, some would tease him. I never saw Felix angry. I never saw Felix react with temper, ugliness, ego or pride. I so wish that I would have had his temperament growing up. Felix defined strength of character.
Felix's art was truly excellent. I am positive that many spoke of his illustrations. I usually got drawn as villain but as I grew up and changed so did Felix's interpretations of me. It was as if he could see me through the layers of armor I presented to others. He created in his art, a more accurate portrayal of who I really was than I even knew about myself. Such was the insight of Felix Fleming Jr.
Felix was loved. His loss will be felt. Many of us grew up with Felix. He watched us change from girls to women and boys to men. We started off as children and many of us started families of our own. If there was a lesson I was trying to teach to a person coming up in the world I would use these parts of Felix's life to guide them; Be kind to everyone. Follow your passion. Look out for those who need support and protection. Join a tribe of people that you love. Accept love and give love freely. These are some of the lessons I learned from Felix Fleming Jr.
RIP my friend. You will not be forgotten.

I've known Felix since the 80s. I don't live in Atlanta anymore, but when I would visit, it was always great to see him. I will cherish his drawings for as long as I live! He will be missed by all who knew him! He was a really great person, a very kind soul. Sad I can't be there in person. Much LOVE and LIGHT to you ALL!

Sweet Felix was always a bright spot in my day when I worked in L5P in the early 90s. When I moved back to Atlanta a decade later, he was just as kind to my kids. He had a good heart and will be missed by many. Sending all who are missing him love and light.

It will be strange to not see Felix at the Star Bar drawing people. I'm glad I got a chance to be one of his subjects and that I have a few of his drawings. He was always such sweet, nice guy. Peace be with you in the next realm brother. S

Felix was such a kind man. And a talented artist. And more than that, he was part of the fabric that made me love this neighborhood so much. A nice guy with a talent wanting to share it with the world. RIP kind sir......

Felix always greeted me with a warm, familiar smile. He'd approach, extending his hand for mine, taking it gently and planting a kiss on it. Years and years could pass, but Felix always recognized me through every hair cut and color, and with startling clarity could recall the last time we'd seen each other. He always told me I was pretty. :)

The world has one less gentle giant in it.

I'll always remember Felix finding me in the crowd at Metroplex or Marguaritaville and greeting me with "Hello Bruce, my brother" and a joking smile. Farewell, Felix, you will be greatly missed by all whose lives you touched.

February 13, 2015

I met Felix when we were both 20 at the Metroplex at 300 Luckie St. He was one of our first customers. He was always such a nice, polite and gentle guy. Suzanne and I always made sure he had plenty of juice to drink and had something to eat when he would visit us at the Alley Cat to draw the customers and bands.. The last time we saw each other I gave him a new wooden cigar box for him to keep his pens in. He was so excited. I will miss Felix but he is on to a better place no matter what you believe in. Peace be your journey Felix!
