Family-Placed Death Notice

Floy Porter Culbreth, 87, of Atlanta died Friday, November 18, 2005. Born in Sylvester, Georgia on October 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Ashton and Mary Lou Westbrook Porter. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ammonette Porter. After moving to Atlanta, she became an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Later, she joined Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. There, her involvement extended to the UMW Circle group as well as being a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. At both churches, she was a member of the Altar Guild. She was a founding member of the Atlanta Chapter of United Cerebral Palsy and established the first day care center in Atlanta for children with cerebral palsy. She had also developed a love for gardening. Her greatest legacy, however, is her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Roy B. Culbreth; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Long Howard of Atlanta; a daughter and son-in-law, Thea and Bill Chamberlain of Decatur; three grandchildren, Megan Howard, Wes Jones, and Bryan Jones, all of Atlanta; and a brother, Joe Westbrook Porter of Villa Rica. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Atlanta, 3300 NE Expressway Access Road, Atlanta, GA 30341. Funeral services will be held at 2 O'clock on Monday, November 21, in the Chapel of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
