Family-Placed Death Notice

HARBOUR, Gail S. Gail S. Harbour, of Sandy Springs, passed away March 28th at the age of 62. She was her own most demanding taskmaster. First she took honors at Simmons College; then, at Columbia Law School, where she was Articles Editor of the Columbia Law Review; then she was one of the first female corporate associates at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Later she served for over 16 years as permanent law clerk for the Honorable J. L. Edmondson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In between she raised two children, with cheer and stops for ice cream on Monday afternoons. Her great pleasures were, in no particular order, live theater; her devotedly irascible dogs, Pumpkin and Peanut; betting the pass line at the craps table at the Harrah's Lake Tahoe; Simon & Garfunkel; marzipan; a good argument; a glass of white wine at Sunday brunch; and finding a bargain. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 36 years, Steven E. Harbour of Sandy Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Mike Doyle, and her granddaughters, Sheena and Janet Doyle, all of Dunwoody; her son and future daughter-in-law, Michael Harbour of Cambridge, Mass., and Stephanie Northen of Los Angeles; her brother and sister-in-law, Steven Gutstein and Kitty Brown of New York City; and her mother, Vita Gutstein of Boca Raton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Kidney Fund, or treating yourself to a few Thin Mints and a glass of milk.
