Gerda HOFER

1934 - 2014

HOFER, Gerda Gerda (Wurzweiler) Hofer, 79, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Center of Atlanta on Oct. 25, 2014 after a long and difficult fight with Breast Cancer. She was born in Schwabach Germany on November 15, 1934In 1959, Gerda came to the United States and married the love of her life, Horst W. Hofer, who had emigrated from Schwabach Germany the previous year. Their 56 year marriage was filled with business ventures, friendships and family. Other than her love of cooking, her enjoyment of knitting and enjoying her dogs, Gerda was a very astute businesswoman. She worked for C&S Bank as corporate secretary before being recruited by the German Consulate in Atlanta. In 1973, Gerda and her husband Horst opened Hofer's Bakery in Sandy Springs followed by Hofer's Bakery & Café in Helen Ga. in 1991. After retiring in 2000, Gerda remained active at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gatlinburg TN. and with the Gatlinburg Garden Club. Gerda is survived by her husband Horst, her son Ralph and his wife Suzie, their children Kassidy, Kailee, Allie, Jesse, Brittany and Kyler. (Sautee, Ga.), sister in law Marianne Krull (Roswell, Ga.), Brother in law Walter Hofer and his wife Erna (Schwabach Germany). A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 3 pm on Saturday November 15th, 2014 at the Roswell Funeral Home 950 Mansell Rd, Roswell Ga. 30076.
