SHENK, Gloria Killam
Gloria Killam Shenk, 73, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2025 after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy/Parkinson's Disease.
She was born Gloria June Killam on April 26, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Bernice Bankester Killam, and Elton K. Killam, and was the fifth of nine children. While her father served in the U.S. Navy, she lived in Virginia, MD, and Louisiana before moving to Pensacola, FL. She graduated from Escambia High School in Pensacola, FL in 1970, and worked in various financial roles for banks and corporations in New Orleans before attending college where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1980 from the University of South Alabama. She received her licensure as a certified public accountant and served many companies through the years as a CPA and in Senior Finance and Accounting Executive Management positions. Later, her passion for travel inspired her to start her own travel agency business, Ahoy There!, during which she planned unforgettable adventures around the world for many, including family and friends.
Gloria was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished sister, and a dear friend to so many. Above all, she especially treasured being "Gigi" to her grandchildren, whom she adored spoiling and playing with. A woman of faith, she was a member of the Methodist Church and lived her life guided by putting others before herself. Her generous spirit knew no bounds - she delighted in showering her family with thoughtful gifts and making every holiday and birthday feel truly special. She worked tirelessly to keep her home organized and beautiful, took pride in her yard, and cared deeply for her beloved pets. Always impeccably dressed, she carried herself with grace and a sparkle of humor that drew others to her. She was also the ultimate hostess, welcoming everyone with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable meals. Her southern-style breakfasts were a family favorite, and her chocolate creme brulee was legendary.
Gloria is survived by her husband, David Shenk, of Alpharetta, GA; her daughter, Anastasia "Stacey" Lewis; son-in-law, Josh Lewis; and grandchildren, Jackson Lewis and Caroline Lewis, of Milton, GA. She is also survived by her eight brothers and sisters: Elaine Killam Walker of Brooks, GA, Elton Killam (Marilon), of Gulf Breeze, FL, Wynell Killam Austin (Frank), of Covington, GA; Wanda Killam Greer (Jimmie), of Destin, FL; Donald Killam (Michele), of St. Petersburg, FL; Sandy Killam-Hall (Lee), of Woodstock, GA; Sherri Killam-Albee (Skip), of Daphne, AL; and Kenneth Bo Killam (Rena'), of Pensacola, FL. Additionally, she leaves behind 15 beloved nieces and nephews; and 9 beloved great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be dearly and sorely missed due to all of the hearts she touched.
Gloria's family and friends will celebrate her life with a private service at Alpharetta Methodist Church on August 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
