Just now, February 2014, I went on Google as my last email to her was returned again. At our age, I know what it means when Xmas cards & emails are returned, but always hold out hope, she had a new address that I had not learned about just yet and I had a new address in 2009.
I am an artist and she asked me to do the large pastels of herself and her daughter, Alicia, that she proudly hung in her home.
One year I was on my way to Grand Caymen Island via Miami plane and I decided to stop and call Gwen on my way from Houston, TX through Florida. Since I know nothing about sports, I had no idea it was the weekend of the Daytona NASCAR race and Gwen's Bill was President of NASCAR that year.
Gwen was so wonderful, she insisted I come by & meet her favorite country western singer (I think she had every album he had ever made on special shelves just for him, as she had invited him out to dinner with them and insisted I join them at home so she could show me where the portraits were hanging before we all went to dinner.
I was so embarrassed I didn't know about the Daytona race, but if I had, I probably wouldn't have called her and spent our last time in person together. Such a gracious hostess and a warm friend for all these years....till the cards and emails started coming back.
She loved her dogs and each year I would look forward to a crazy letter from her dog (was it Bitsy?.. before Bitsy died) that explained exactly what her master & mistress had been up to.
So Rest in Peace, dear Gwen. I will miss you a lot. I regret not saying Goodbye in person. You were loved.
Your friend and your portrait artist, Nancy Deupree Crisamore Parker, Houston, TX

I first met Gwen when I was in high school and spent the summer with my grandparents, but our family connection began when she and my aunt were in high school. She was a very special lady, and I have thought of her often during the years.

While online searching artist, I saw that Gwen passed away in 2009. I loved her work and still have 3 pieces that are a treasure to me (I'm sorry now that I gave away 2 others). I only knew her from buying paintings but she was so lovely and friendly and reading her obit was a sad moment.

She had supported our class activities for sixty years, not only with her attendance but also with generous contributions of her art for special events.

We will miss her winning smiles and vibrant personality.
