Imogene Robbins Obituary

ROBBINS, Imogene G. Imogene Grayson Robbins, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 28, 2015 at Halcyon Hospice House in Atlanta. She was born in Bostic, North Carolina, on February 18, 1937, the only child of Thomas Walsh Grayson and Ruth Hollifield Grayson. She graduated from Carson Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee, and immediately married her high school boy friend, James Buddy Robbins, with whom she had two sons, James Grayson Robbins and John Jeffery Robbins. Jeffrey was killed in an automobile accident at age 16, and Grayson was a faithful care giver through Imogene's lengthy battle with cancer. After a 20 year marriage, Imogene was divorced and began a 34 year career as a legal assistant, a position that she truly enjoyed. She was a founding member of Chestnut Ridge Christian Church in Marietta and was a member for 36 years. Through the years she served her church as a Pianist, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, and Elder. She is survived by her son Grayson Robbins, cousins Mike Hollifield (Susan), Phil Hollifield (Dinah) and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Jeffrey Robbins, and her parents. A Celebration of Life will be held at Chestnut Ridge Christian Church on Saturday October 17th. In lieu of Flowers memorials may be sent to Chestnut Ridge Christian Church 2663 Johnson Ferry Rd Marietta, GA 30062.

Imogene was my roommate and accompanist at Carson-Newman. We enjoyed playing violin/piano programs for various organizations in Jefferson City. Imogene and I double-dated when I had my first date with my husband, Marvin Clipp, and we double-dated when her future husband, Bud Robbins, visited campus. I remember Imogene as an intelligent and talented friend with whom I shared many happy times. She will be missed by all who knew her. Cornelia Goerner Clipp, Class of '59

Imogene was such a wonderful, warm, and caring person who will truly be missed by those of us who had the good fortune of knowing and working with her. She was the epitome of a Southern lady who will always have a special place in my heart.

We will truly miss Imogene. She was the center of our law office for over 2 decades, affectionately known as "the Hub" because everything revolved around her. Her wonderful happy spirit guided us to a fulfilling law practice. We often remarked that she was the finest person any of us knew. I always told her how grateful I was that she worried about me and the law practice, because she always had such keen insight, and was always responsible and diligent.
