Jack Carr Obituary

CARR, Jack Kenneth

1939-2025

Jack Kenneth "Ken" Carr passed away on February 28, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 85. He is remembered for his wisdom, devotion to family, love of world history, and generosity with his time.

Ken was born and raised in Havana, Cuba, and attended St. George's School, where he played baseball and basketball, was a top student, and formed strong friendships that he maintained for the rest of his life. He went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Havana, while also working at the Cuban Telephone Company.

After leaving his home country to start a new life in the United States, Ken enjoyed close ties with friends and relatives in Miami, but ultimately moved to the Atlanta area in 1962. He applied his keen intellect, vast knowledge, and prodigious memory in his career as a senior telecommunications engineer with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies in Sandy Springs, for over 40 years.

Always an avid reader and superb problem solver, Ken was a founding member of the Atlanta Sherlock Holmes Club. He was also a member of the Atlanta 400 Baseball Fan Club, the Atlanta Jaguar Society, and the IEEE. He was a chess enthusiast and loved attending classical musical performances at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In retirement, he put his bilingual skills to use volunteering regularly with his wife at the Suthers Center for Christian Outreach. He was an active member of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church in Atlanta for over 35 years.

Ken is survived by his wife, Irene L. Carr; his son, Alan Carr; daughter-in-law, Noelle; and two granddaughters, Lyla and Adeline. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Harold Carr and Ofelia Mongeotti; and his brother, Harold William Carr.

A visitation will be held for Ken on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at H.M. Patterson & Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 12:00 PM, at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, 3110 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA 30319, followed by a committal service at 1:00 PM, at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AMIS Atlanta.
