My memories of Jimbo are from football days at Headland. He always treated the younger players with respect and encouragement. From reading the other entries here he carried these traits on through his life in his dealings with others. May God bless you, your family and all who knew Jimbo.

Dear Ann,
Mike and I were so very sorry to hear the sad news about Jim. We both remember when you married him and how happy he made you. We only had the pleasure of meeting him a few times, but we both remember his great personality; he always had a smile on his face. We are praying for you and hope that the wonderful memories you have will help you through this most difficult time. If you need to talk, please call us.
Love,
Julie and Mike

Dear Ann,
I grew up in East Point with Jimbo and Bob. Bob was my best friend for many years and I spent lots of time with them both in their home. Jimbo was a man's man even as a high schooler but he took great care of those of us younger ones. He was a genuinely nice guy even as a teen. I was a Sub-Freshman when he was a senior and all of us looked up to Jimbo. In later years I got to see him when he was in the Secret Service and he still was the nice guy I had always known. My life is enriched by having known him. I pray that God will give you great comfort in this time. Please give my love to Bob.
God bless you.

Dear Ann,
There was no greater gentleman on earth than Jim. He brightened many a lunch hour with his stories of the past. He always knew when the ladies in the office were having a bad day, and always had chocolate to make it better. Even after long hours on the campaign trail, he was pleasant and looking our for everyone else. "Snap-a-roo" was always his number one. In the days ahead, know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ann,
Heather and I are deeply saddened by the passing of a true American Hero. I have always considered Jimbo one of the best friends I have ever had, and I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks. He helped me out when I was a new lawyer and he always went the extra mile for me. He didn't have to do the things he did to help me, but he never hesitated, and that is why Jim Hardin will be remembered always, by everyone who knew him.

Dear Ann
As you know, Jim and I walked through the Atlanta office of the USSS as new agents on the same day. During our time together, we walked through many more doors during the course of our work. As long as Jim was there with me I always knew everything would be OK. As so many will attest, we have all lost a true and wonderful friend. I will miss him and my heart aches for your loss. Debbie and I will keep you and Jim in our hearts and prayers.
With love and so much sorrow,
Ed & Debbie Macomber

Our hearts are broken…we have lost a dear friend. What a privilege it was to know the “Coach” as we called him. Dinner parties, cookouts and walks (after we ate too much!). No matter where it was, we enjoyed his company. While we all will miss him, especially you Ann, we must remember what a wonderful man he was and the many lives he touched. He loved his family very much, and we will always be here for you. You will forever be in our prayers.

Ann,
Jimbo (Elmer) was one of my best pals in the Atlanta SS office. I really enjoyed your visit to NC State University football home coming. He was one of a kind and I miss him already. Both of you are in my thoughts this day.

I read with sadness the Death of Jimbo my best friend, @ Headland High School, and later in life. I last saw in when he stopped by to pay his respect to us on the loss my Brother Steve (9/20-04). I have so many great memories, of us, we had dinner on Sundays with his Mom, and we did our Friday night out and tried all the Best Places to Eat. He was truly a great man, and I only regret we lost contact in the last few years. We were all so proud of him, When he was entrusted with the protection of Presidents( Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Carter)
We loved you Jimbo, and I know the Dear Lord will take Care of you and Steve.

Ann,
I am so sorry to hear about your husband. In January I lost Gordon after 40 years of marriage. I wish I had some words of comfort for you, but I don't; I can only tell you that I know what you are going through, and that my heart aches for you.

A true American patriot and a prosecutor who took it to heart as much as we cops do, I'll miss my good friend. To the Hardin family, my unending prayers. "And God shall wipe away all their tears from their eyes" Revelation 21:4.
