Jane:
Ken and I have been thinking about you and Jim a lot lately. What a great man! Meeting you and Jim was the most surprising and wonderful thing about living in Atlanta. We will never forget how you and Jim invited us over for hot dogs and vodka after one of those big storms where the power went out. We had great fun and lots of laughs all of those afternoons and evenings we spent with the two of you! I know you know how lucky you are to have found someone like Jim to spend all those years with. And of course he was luckier (and would have said so!). Here's to a great man, a true hero and a good friend. Jim clearly loved life and his family and both of you are role models for us.
Lots of love and big hugs to you, Nancy, Betsy and Patty.

Having recently moved to Hilderbrand Drive in Atlanta, a very sweet neighbor named "Jane" came to our door to invite us to a dinner of Vodka & Hot Dogs. Taking us into her home, we met her husband Jim who regailed us with wonderful stories of WWII. Somewhere in-between the 1st Vodka and the 4th Vodka, we found ourselves laughing uncontrollably with our new neighbors and friends, Jim & Jane Nally. My partner David and I spent some of our favorite times in Atlanta with The Nally's. Having now moved back to California and now to Austin, Texas--we have lost touch with the Nallys and I just learned of Jim's passing--which is such sad news to comprehend but at the same time--I celebrate the times we shared with Jim & Jane. Truly--they are 2 of the most interesting people we have ever met--full of life, laughter and love! Jim gave us a little peg game that he carried with him during the war--its a cherished memento of our dear friend. Jane--if you get this message--please know we think of you so very often and talk about you guys and just laugh at some of the fun we had. Nancy--we loved your dad so much--he was such a great guy. Please contact us with info on Jane so we can get in touch with her.
Love and prayers to all of you,
Ken Bertwell & David Applegate

Jane and family--My condolences to you on Jim's death. I enjoyed every contact with him at Shell, and I'm sorry we drifted out of contact. To this day, I give Jim credit for getting me hired at Shell--a working relationship that lasted 37 years. I remain grateful, and I will continue to carry fond memories of him. Sincerely, E.R. Jim was a mentor and a friend and I have the greatest admiration for him. I learned a lot from him in the brief two years we spent together at Doraville. He was one of the good guys.

Jim;
Had I have known that you were still alive, I would have looked you up to thank you for the things that you did for me as a young kid just starting out with Shell in Chattanooga. Instead, I will ask my Saviour to relay a message to you, thanking you for helping me on my way with Shell beginning in 1950. I know that you will be greatly missed by your family.

To Jim's family,
I haven't seen Jim in many years but his memory is evergreen. He was probably my most memorable fellow Shell person and taught me a lot about life. His ready wit and irrepresible humor made dull meetings bearable and even enjoyable. He always had time to give good advice to young folks and to tell them a good joke. I'm sorry events separated us so many years ago but I never forgot him.
