Family-Placed Death Notice

PAGE, James Boyd ONE OF THE ORIGINAL INVESTOR RIGHTS ADVOCATE PASSES TO A BETTER PLACE On June 17th, 2013, J. Boyd Page passed peacefully and public investors lost one of their leading advocates. Boyd was widely recognized as one of the leading investor attorneys in the country. During his career he handled some of the largest investment fraud cases filed in courts and arbitration forums. He represented injured investors from virtually every state. James Boyd Page was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on September 27, 1948 to James and Valda Page. He attended Dobyns-Bennett High School where he excelled in football and baseball, graduating in 1966. He received a football scholarship to attend the University of Virginia where he played middle linebacker throughout his collegiate career. He graduated from the Commerce School at UVA with a Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction in Commerce in 1970. He then attended the University of Virginia Law School and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1973. In 1973, Boyd accepted a position in Atlanta with the firm of Cofer Beauchamp & Hawes. In 1987, he was a founding partner in the Atlanta firm of Page & Bacek LLP, which ultimately became Page Perry, LLC. A trial attorney, Boyd practiced primarily in investment disputes. In the securities area, he had extensive experience representing investors against brokerage firms, issuers of securities and others. Some of Boyd's cases were chronicled in Kurt Eichenwald's best-selling book, "Serpent on the Rock," the story of Prudential Securities' limited partnership problems. Boyd served as adjunct professor of law, teaching "Introduction to Civil Practice" at the Emory University School of Law. In addition, he regularly spoke on securities/investment related topics, at numerous seminars sponsored by Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Practising Law Institute, the American Law Institute, the Georgia Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the Association for Investment Management and Research, the North American Securities Administrators Association, the Northwest Center for Professional Education, the American Arbitration Association, the Institute for International Research, and the InterAmerican Bar Association. Boyd was recognized by his peers with the ABA Preeminent AV Designation and being recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer. Boyd testified before Congressional Subcommittees on the securities arbitration process. He was regularly interviewed by and quoted in leading newspapers and business periodicals on many occasions regarding investors' rights and investment disputes. Boyd was a past member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority's (f/k/a National Association of Securities Dealers) National Arbitration Committee and its NASD's Securities Arbitration Policy Task Force. Boyd also served on the Advisory Board of the Securities Arbitration Commentator, the Georgia Penny Stock Advisory Committee and the American Arbitration Association's Securities Arbitration Policy Committee. Boyd was a founder and past president of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association. He was the co-chair of the American Bar Association's Securities Arbitration Subcommittee. Boyd received the "Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award" from the Georgia Secretary of State. For over 15 years, Boyd served on the Compliance Advisory Committee of Edward Jones, a major national brokerage firm. Boyd is survived by Patti, his loving wife of 26 years, and his son Jay, who was always the apple of his eye. Boyd was predeceased by his parents James and Valda. Boyd is also survived by his sisters Alice Page and Margi Anderson, nephews Thad Carter and Wesley Anderson, and numerous other family members. There will be a celebration of life service at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church at 2pm on Saturday, June 22nd, 2013. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Page family. Boyd was a fine attorney and a fine person. Our law practice representing securities brokerage firms often pitted us on the other side of the case from Boyd. He was always a tenacious advocate, an honest lawyer and a gentleman. Boyd loved his family very much, and I am sure you loved him and were very proud of him. We will all miss him very much.
