Jane Barbe Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

MRS. JANE BARBE Passed away on July 18 in Roswell, GA. "The Voice of America" and "The Most Heard Voice in The World" were titles frequently given to Jane Barbe. For forty years, as many as fifty million people each day heard her recorded voice used by 1,000 telephone companies in the U.S., Canada; Asia and South America. Mrs. Barbe told callers the time, temperature, weather, horoscopes and other messages like "that number has been disconnected". Her voice was also used by hundreds of companies for voice mail and answer machines and by hotels for wake-up calls. She recorded several hundred-radio commercials, was seen and heard on many television commercials and sang on many advertising jingles that she and her composer husband created and produced. In 1950, Mrs. Barbe graduated from the University of Georgia where she was president of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Jane was the featured vocalist with the Buddy Morrow Orchestra for two years, and served several terms on the Executive Board of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Survivors include husband, John, daughter, Susan Sosshana Stubin of Passaic, NJ; son, David Barbe of Athens, GA; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs at 11 AM on July 21. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, GA 30004-4048. Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd. 770-993-4811

We're so sorry we didn't have the opportunity to get to know this wonderful, lovely lady better. We do know that she now has an honored place in God's heavenly choir.

I'm very sorry to learn of Jane's passing. As a former telephone operator, I've heard her skillful and pleasant voice thousands of times, and I'm sure her recordings will play on for many years to come. I'm sorry I never got to meet her in person, but at least I got to know about her, and admire her work.

My sympathy and prayers are with the Barbe family, and I hope many good memories and stories will bring them comfort.

God bless,

Kevin J. Fitzgerald

The Barbe Family has always been a part of our lives. Jane and John will always be the "cool parents" who enabled their kids, and the children around them, to grow musically, spiritually and more.

Mary & Ward Winer

July 20, 2003

Jane will be missed by those of us who only saw her occasionally but thought of her often. Jane's hearty laugh and gracious smile were a gift to her friends. Her person has graced our lives and will continue to grace our memories.

The kindness John and Jane have given to the Winer family will always be remembered and cherished.

Ann and Baxter WEBB

We are so sorry to know that our dear friend, Jane, is no more with us. We had been friends most of our lives. Ann was a Tri Delt with Jane and Baxter graduated from the UGA Drama Departmet with Jane. Our sympathies are with John and her children Susan and David and the grandchrilden. She is with her Lord today.
