Jeane Austin Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

JEANE WEED AUSTIN Jeane Weed Austin, the wife of J. Paul Austin, passed away on November 2, Thursday morning, 12:15 am. In her life, Jeane was a devoted wife, a generous and caring friend, and a devoted Mother, sister and daughter. Jeane was married to J. Paul Austin for 35 years. Her wholehearted support enabled her husband in his service to The Coca Cola Company. In 1978-80 Jeane offered her services to The Company, to help decorate the North Avenue Tower and other projects, reflecting the "quiet elegance" of The Coca-Cola Family. Twenty six years later, employees and guests of The Coca-Cola Company continue to appreciate her legacy and are touched by the art and tapestries that she commissioned and found from around the world. Below is a message to Coca-Cola employees from Neville Isdell. TO: ALL EMPLOYEES WORLDWIDE I regret to inform you that Jeane Austin, the wife of former Chairman Paul Austin, passed away last night at the age of 87, one week shy of her 88th birthday. Jeane, a gracious lady and a loyal wife to her husband, Paul, whom she married in 1950, was the mother of two children, John Paul Jr. and Samuel. Paul was chairman from 1970 to 1981 and spent a total of 32 years with the Company. He passed away in 1985. Jeane was instrumental in the interior look and feel of North Avenue tower. Her design suggestions were incorporated into the executive floors, where they have remained virtually unchanged since constructed. She also located and recommended a tapestry artist whose work still hangs in our lobby today. Service arrangements have not yet been finalized. Our thoughts are with Jeane's family and friends during this difficult time. NEVILLE ISDELL The following is a quote from Mother's friends at The Company who treasure her contributions to this day."Jeane was instrumental in beautifying The Coca-Cola Company. Her designs were incorporated into the executive floors of the Tower, the corporate hangar, as well as the current Coca-Cola Plaza building. She also located and recommended a tapestry artist whose work still hangs in our lobby today. Through her hard work and dedication, we continue to enjoy the quiet elegance that will forever serve as a reminder of her timeless spirit. Jeane was a perfectionist with superb taste - elegance personified. She was exquisite and will be greatly missed." Jeane has been a wonderful mother to two sons born to Paul and her: Jock (55) and Sam (52). Both sons have taken distinctly different paths in their respective lives, but have shared a singular devotion and appreciation to their Mother and Father. Jeane's love for her sons reached out to both of them simultaneously with support and encouragement: Jock a farmer and pastor in northeast British Columbia, and Sam an entrepreneur and health care champion with the Alzheimer's Association in Atlanta. Her support was unconditional and unending. She may have had a different opinion on occasions, and was never shy about expressing those opinions, but at the end of the day, she was always there. Her only concern was that her sons would be happy and successful in their life pursuits. Jeane's love for decorating and gardening were most evident in the home she designed and lived in with her family from 1962 to the present. She loved gardening and pursued her passion in every home she and her husband Paul lived in. It was in Atlanta that some of her greatest gardening pleasures were realized. Her ability to visualize an outcome in decorating and gardening was truly a gift, and never more evident than when it was planting time. The culmination of her labors was enjoyed every Spring and Summer by friends and family, as the flowers, bushes and plants created a symphony of beauty and color, that matured and changed through the seasons.Jeane was a member of Peachtree Golf Club, Commerce Club, Piedmont Driving Club and Capital City Club. Some of her civic memberships include the Forward Arts Foundation, Mimosa Garden Club, High Museum of Art, Atlanta Historical Society, Atlanta History Center, Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History.Jeane is survived by her 2 sons, Jock and Sam, 2 daughters-in-law, Khris and Kim, 8 grandchildren, Deborah, Rebecca, J. Paul, Elizabeth, Abigail, Karen, S. Paul and Jessica, and 10 great grandchildren My brother and I are comforted in that our Mother of 2, Grandmother of 8, Great Grandmother of 10, and friend to many, has gone on to be with our Dad and her reward in heaven. The Weed Family

November 10, 2006

We were deeply saddened to learn of Aunt Jeane’s passing. She was a wonderful daughter to her mom, Grandma Weed, especially in her later years. We were all very grateful to have her support in caring for her family when the times were tough. A wonderful generous lady, whose legacy will surely live on along with our fond memories of her. Although we are far away, our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.
