Family-Placed Death Notice
Funeral service for Dr. Jelani Tremain Scott, age 27, resident of Conley, GA, graduate of Xavier University, New Orleans, LA and Pharmacist with CVS, Decatur, GA will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2003, 12:00 noon at Bethany Baptist Church, Hwy 18 in Pine Mountain, GA, Rev. Ervin Smith officiating. Interment Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends TONIGHT from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gus Thornhill's Chapel, 1315 Gus Thornhill Jr. Dr., East Point, GA. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Scott (Marva) of Conley, GA; brother, Thomas, Jr. of Conley, GA; sister, LaTrell; nephews, Amari and Kendrell of Pine Mountain, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and closer friends. The cortege will assemble at Gus Thornhill's Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home, Inc. (404) 768-2993-4.

I graduated with Jelani in 1994 from Cedar Grove Highschool and shared the football field with him. Jelani was one of the brightest of our graduating class. I was deployed to the Iraqi war when I received the news of his passing. He has been truly missed. He ran across my mind today and that is the reason I'm writing this so many years after. To the family I continue to send my condolences and know he is not forgotten by those outside of your family.

Jelani was such an inspiration to me. We first met 1 1/2 years ago at CVS Pharmacy on Glenwood road. I was a pharmacy tech there and Jelani was a intern awaiting the news that he earned the title of "DR.!" We had so many wonderful times working together; laughing, learning, singing "....Drop the top and let the sunshine in......." I learned of his passing today and I must tell you, I am hurt. His spirit lives on thru the memories of his warm smile, joyful laugh, and giving spirit. Jelani's memory will live on thru all of those that he touched. Jelani, I miss u and I will see u one day in heaven.

You all know that Jelani was like a son to me for so many years. He was a wonderful young man who truly left his mark on my family and all of the lives that he touched. While we have been so saddened by these events, we must rest secured in the knowledge that he is with our Master and is looking down on all of us with his winning smile! May God continue to keep all of you in His care. "Look to the hills from whence cometh your help; your help cometh from the Lord".

Jelani was one of the coolest as well as nicest people I had the pleasure of knowing at Xavier ('98). He embraced you as a friend almost immediately. He will be genuinely missed. My prayers go out to his family.

It was of great shock to hear of the death of Jelani. Jelani and I entered Xavier at the same time in the fall of 1994. Jelani, even back then, was an unforgettable presence upon the campus of Xavier. His family and friends are defintely in the prayers of the Xavier commnuity.

From the first time I met J. Scott, to the last time I saw him, he had a big smile on his face, a positive energy that I can not exsplain, a graceful spirit, a loving heart, and he was always helpful. I know in my heart that he is with God because God is love and Jelani is love. J. Scott was like family and I can't wait to see you again. I will be praying for our family, for the pain, the sorrow, and the heart breaks, may God touch ours hearts, heal our souls, and hush the crys. Remember God's in control and he does things in ways that we can't question or exsplain, but theres a reason and a season for everything he does and Jelani is gone to do God's work now. Indeed my first impressions of "J. Scott" are lasting impressions of a man who despite the chaos of this world managed to rise above mediocrity while still possessing the will to press on and the heart to uplift others as he rose. I was one of many lifelong friends that Jelani made at Xavier in the fall of 1994 in St. Mike's dormitory, and had the pleasure of spending time with him at a wedding this past spring. To the Scott family, my prayers are with you all. To Tenille, this may never make sense, but I pray that good memories will strengthen you during these difficult days. I want to first offer my condolences to the family and May God comfort you in this time of sorrow. I knew Jelani from Cedar Grove High School. We shared several classes together and in those classes is where I got to know him. He was intelligent, caring, and funny. I am blessed to have known him. We lost contact after graduation but we recently saw each other and caught up on old times. He will truly be missed.

As I remember Jelani, I remember a spirit that was always full of joy and laughter. I also remember a young man with great intelligence as he graduated at the top of our class. I had many classes with Jelani and it is an honor to have known him.
