Family-Placed Death Notice

POTATE, Jerry Mr. Jerry C. Potate, age 67, died January 4, 2009 of complications from diabetes. He was born on February 1, 1941 in Temple, GA. He was the son of the late John Andrew Potate and the late Jean Potate Norton. He was also preceded in death by his wife Reba Shadix Potate. He worked at Robert & Company Associates for 43 years as an Electrical Engineer and retired in 2005. After his retirement he continued to work with the Corp of Engineers in New Orleans as part of the rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina. As a result of his contributions he received a special commendation from the President of the United States in September of 2007. Jerry was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his children, Jeff and Sheri Potate of Winston, Kim and Chris Rideout of Powder Springs, Shad and Marcie Potate of Douglasville; grandchildren, Devin Potate, Taylor and Mackenzie Rideout and Tucker Potate; sister, Linda and Robert Allen of Franklin; brother, Andy and Gaye Potate of Franklin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Reverend Tim Potate officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Jerry Potate residence after the burial.
