Jette Sternberg

STERNBERG, Jette Jette Ibaek Sternberg's spirit left her on Wednesday morning July 16, 2014 after 71 years of a life of generosity and inspiration. All who knew her were inspired by her gist for life and indomitable strength of character and her disarming smile. She temporarily parted from Tom Sternberg, her husband of fifty years and her daughter Dr. Maya Sternberg on condition that they will remember her forever as wonderful and beautiful human being that she was. Jette (Jakobsen) arrived in 1963from Copenhagen, Denmark to Stanford University and at the International House officiated by one of their student ordained friends, married Tom, who came from Israel. Shortly after moving to Minneapolis, MN, Jette was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis and was forced for the next four decades to live out of a wheelchair - from which she was finally freed last Wednesday. In spite of this she lived in and travelled to Vienna, Budapest, London, Jerusalem and her ancestral home of Denmark while growing her family. Also while nurturing her daughter Maya Sternberg thru Pace Academy, Carnegie Mellon University and Emory University to a scientific research career at CDC she maintained a warm and gracious home in Tucker. Additionally, Jette was a surrogate mother to more than 40 young Danish caregivers who forever are grateful for their homemaking skills and character building Jette contributed and inspired in them.
