Jimmy Milton Balkcom

Funeral service will be held for Mr. Jimmy Milton Balkcom, age 56, of Nacogdoches at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at First Christian Church in Nacogdoches, with the Rev. Terry Hodge officiating. Burial will follow at Tennessee Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas. Mr. Balkcom passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007 in Lufkin, Texas.Born in Shreveport, La. on March 12, 1951, he was the son of James Normis and Lolette (Agnew) Balkcom. Mr. Balkcom grew up in the Tennessee Community and graduated from Tenaha High School where he played many sports. He later attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Mr. Balkcom was a retail manager at Dixon Furniture. He also painted landscapes and portraits as he was a talented artist. He enjoyed to do woodwork and loved to hunt. Mr. Balkcom was an active member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He will be remembered for his outgoing and easy going spirit; and forever thought of as a very devoted father and friend.Survivors include his wife Sherri (Bishop) Balkcom of Anchorage, Alaska; mother, Lolette Balkcom of Tenaha, Texas; daughters, Autumn Landrum of Nacogdoches and Karlee Balkcom of Anchorage, Alaska; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Allen Sapp of Huntsville, and brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Kay Balkcom of Joaquin, Texas.Mr. Balkcom is preceded by his father, James Normis Balkcom.Active pallbearers will be Rick Still, Gil Daniels, Les Littleton, C.L. Ballard, Richard Humphreys, Bubba Owens.The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, from 6- 8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church 702 N.
