John was my friend, colleague and mentor on how to live ones best life with a lifelong, debilitating condition. He was always kind. He was always upbeat and used humor to help him and others push forward through adversity. He was a prince among men and one of a kind. I was blessed to know him. John will be missed! Sending love and prayers to the entire Harrison family.

My heart breaks as I learn of John’s passing. I was the assistant director at Camp Rockmont in Black Mountain, N.C. during John’s 4 summers here
(camper 79-81, staff 82). I am currently owner and executive director. Rockmont is the largest private boys camp in the South. A lot of boys come through Rockmont each summer. Few have left an impression on me personally like John D Harrison. His smile, joy, attitude, sense of humor, love of life and people, were unmatched. John achieved Rockmont’s highest awards, including Little Chief and 100 point man award...the latter given to only 5 or so each summer (out of 1500). I regret that I didn’t make more of an effort to stay in touch, but Little Chief “ Courageous Heart” memory and legacy will live on at the Rock indefinitely!
