Family-Placed Death Notice
HUDSON, John JOHN "J. D." HUDSON Celebration of Life Service for Mr. John Davis (J. D.) Hudson will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009, 11:00 AM at Salem Bible Church, 2283 Baker Rd. NW. Instate from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Rev. Jasper Williams, Pastor. Elder Eldrin A. Bell, officiating. Entombment Lincoln Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church at 10:30 AM on the day of service. J. D., as he was called by many of his friends, was preceded in death by his son, John Tony Hudson. He retired from the position of Director of the City Prison System for the Atlanta Bureau of Corrections in 1990. Survivors are: a loving wife, Dolores H. Hudson; one son, Evans Jerome Stuldivant and wife Sandy; daughter, Renee Hudson Goodley and husband, Claude, Jr.; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a devoted aunt, Sadie B. Gaines; brothers-in-law, Irving Harris and wife, Eloise and Carey Redrick; a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Butler Street YMCA. J.D was my role model, I started as a Corrections Officer in 1981 and whenever I had a question or problem he would ensure me with a positive though. J. D will be missed.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the lord.

They say sins of the father are passed on to the sons. Lucky me, I got to know J. D. Hudson through his daughter, Renee, over 21 years of service with the Georgia DNR, when she hired me. Beneath an exterior of graciousness and good humor, she exhibited an inner core of toughness and relentless attention to detail. Now I see the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Hazardous waste can be most unforgiving and the people of Georgia have been well served by someone like Renee Hudson Goodley in her various roles with hazardous waste investigations and oversight of hazardous waste generators.The legacy of J. D. Hudson truly lives on through her and all the lives she has inspired along the way.

To the Hudson Family,
I am sending my prayers, sympathies and condolences to you, due to the loss of your loved one.
I met Mr.John D. Hudson while I was working at the, then, Atlanta Public Library, when I was bringing movies to be shown at the City Prison.
We talked many times, and he was an inspiration to me.
May he rest in Peace.

A genuine giant is no longer with us. Many of us greatly admired Mr. Hudson. His leadership in the community will be sorely missed. He walked gently but carried "a big stick!" Rest in peace.
