Family-Placed Death Notice

DANCE, Joseph E., Jr. Mr. Joseph E. Dance, Jr., CPA and well known drummer, passed away August 31, 2012, from an extended illness. Mr. Dance was born May 7, 1925, in Asheville, NC. His family later moved to Atlanta, where he attended Georgia Tech. He moved to Gainesville, GA in 1947 where he started his accounting business. He later moved his CPA business to Atlanta. His first love was as a drummer, having filled vacancies for Gene Krupa in his earlier years. He formed his own band called The Joe Dance Band and was an accomplished musician. The Joe Dance Band played throughout the Atlanta and Asheville, NC areas, performing music from the Big Band Era such as arrangements from the Glenn Miller Band, Buddy Rich Orchestra, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra and many other well-known artists. Mr. Dance is survived by a cousin, Mrs. Jerry Jack, Knoxville, TN; his children, Jodi Hesse, Pamela Lunsford Waller, Deborah Corser, Michelle Dance Tulis, Roxanne Tucker, Joseph E. Dance III, Francette Schultz, and Cleo Keller; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 4th at 11:00 AM at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Atlanta Hospice, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319. Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell is assisting the Dance family.
