Julian Wade Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

WADE, Julian P. (Buddy) Julian Paul (Buddy) Wade, age 92, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008. He was born March 26, 1916, and was the eldest child and only son of Roger William Wade and Lessie Victoria Sorrow Wade. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margaret Snow Wade; son Julian P. Wade, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Wade Ford; and grandchildren, Julie Wade Aderhold and husband Keith, John Paul Ford, Susan Elaine Wade, Julian Paul Wade; and great-grandson, Joshua Ryan Aderhold. He is also survived by a sister, Eloise Wade Shepard, and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by son-in-law Warren Crockett Ford and granddaughter Anna Margaret Ford. Paul was a graduate of Stone Mountain High School and North Georgia College, class of 1935. His working career spanned well over 50 years, including a few years in the construction industry in DeKalb County, Georgia, and the granite industry in both DeKalb County and Knob Lick, Missouri. He proudly served during World War II, and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in May 1946. He was employed for 24 years with the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, where he rose from the rank of Security Officer to Business Manager. Following his retirement, he began employment with the DeKalb County government as the Director of Purchasing. He retired again from DeKalb County in 1986 after serving as the Coordinator of County Operations for his good friend, mentor, and "boss," J. Manual Maloof. Following his retirement from DeKalb County, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of MARTA and served for more than ten years, providing the board with a level of leadership, dedication, and loyalty that can only be matched - never exceeded. In addition to his love for DeKalb County, his country, and his family, another vital and significant part of his life was the church. He grew up attending Rock Chapel Methodist Church but joined the Presbyterian Church shortly after his marriage. He served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday school teacher in several congregations, and he was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain, where he worshipped with three generations of his family since 1973. A Worship service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 5801 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, Georgia, 30087. Officiating will be Rev. Arch C. Baker, Dr. L. Tyler Downing, Dr. Walter M. Jones, Jr., and Dr. John H. Roark. The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, December 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Eastminster Presbyterian Church or to the American Heart Association. A. S. Turner & Sons
