I had the privilege of serving with Dr. Gilliam at Kennesaw State University. While we were in different colleges , we often worked together on college-wide committees. It was though these experiences, we became dear friends.
I will be forever grateful for the time we spent together that allowed me and others to create memories that will comfort us as
we feel the impact of his loss .
Dr. Gilliam was a distinguished teacher, scholar and servant leader who contributed to lives he touched in higher education and the global communities he served.
My dear friend Dr. Ken Rest In Peace .
My prayers and condolences are extended to his family and friends.

I am ever thankful to have had an all too brief journey with Ken . I recall his keen intellect, support of social Justice issues on campus , and sarcasm if a situation warranted it. RIP.

Ken was loved by all who knew him at Kennesaw State University. A real gentleman. A truly good person. Gentle, genuine and honest to the core. A wise, old-school sage for any colleague or student who was able to slow down enough to have a normal conversation. If only the world had more like Ken, what a wonderful world it would be. Rest in peace old friend. You did your part.

I knew Dr. Gilliam as Cousin Kenneth. We are distant cousins on his mother's side (Jasper) from VA. I met him later in life when he came to VA for his aunt's funeral. I met a man who was fun to be around and I am proud to have been related to him. He will be greatly missed by his family. Rest in peace cuz

Dr. Gilliam was my Economics professor and I worked for him in the Business school advising center at KSU for a little while. From the first day I walked into his class, I loved him...loved his teaching style, his wisdom and his mentorship. Many years after I graduated from KSU, I learned my daughter shared a birthday with him so I made sure to give him a birthday call every year after. We always planned to get together for lunch but it never happened and I regret that immensely.

I will miss you so much Dr. Gilliam! I am so sad you are gone but grateful to have known you. Thank you for all you did for me, the advise you gave me and for instilling my love for Economics. Rest in peace.

Mr. Kenneth Gilliam was my neighbor and a quiet man committed to his beliefs. He was a staunch advocate for the community and wanted the best for his neighborhood. He diligently served as treasurer of the Kings Row Civic Association for many years. Kenneth´s frame of reference (and his scrumptious pound cake) will be sorely missed from the civic meetings. I pray God´s strength, peace and comfort upon Mr. Kenneth Gilliam´s family, friends and loved ones as they mourn his passing.

Dr. Gilliam, affectionately known as "Ken" by his friends and colleagues, stands as a pillar for those that he taught; came in contact with, knew and loved. Not only was Dr. Gilliam a lifetime educator, he was a man that lifted hearts, shared laughs and was a strong person of conviction.

As a student of his, he often shared invaluable lessons that I could share, but will leave most of them between the two of us. We would giggle in his office trying to be quiet as his colleagues and students rushed by, encumbered by one thing or another.

He would say, "where do they think they are going?" I would laugh, knowing this old sage had seen people come and go , and realized there was no reason to rush.

One time I asked him, "in all the years you have lived, what´s the most important lesson you´ve learned in life?" He sat there for a moment, pondering the question as he often did (such as an highly esteemed academic would) then with those big round glasses and even bigger warm brown eyes said, "don´t sweat the small stuff young man, life is too precious."

Although he was my Professor of Economics, he will always be "Dr.Gilliam" my friend.

(pictured: Dr. Gilliam on a hoverboard, "not sweating the small stuff.")

May your life and legacy live on forever in the hearts and minds of those you impacted. Rest in Heaven Dr. Kenneth P. Gilliam, Ph.D.

Dr. Kenneth Gilliam was loved by many. He had an incredible teaching career and was respected by his students and his colleagues. However, it was not his teaching career that leaves us with a giant void; it was his kind heart and compassionate spirit that endeared us. Ask yourself, "How do I want to be remembered?" my answer would be Like Dr. Kenneth Gilliam. I hope we all want to be remembered as selfless, compassionate, generous, and kind like Dr. Ken. Let our tears flow, and may our sorrows be softened with happy memories. Sending my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to friends and family.
I will never forget your big SMILE, Dr. Ken! You are forever in my heart. Until I see you again, Rest in Peace and give a huge hug to my husband from me!

Ken was one of the first colleagues at KSU to introduce himself to me in 2010. Our office doors were directly across the hall from one another which allowed Ken and I to share stories about classes and students, and we discussed life in general. And that's about all I can put here in writing. I looked up to him as a mentor and loved chatting with him about the "earlier years." He will always hold a special part in my memories and will always remain a respected colleague and friend. Rest in peace, Ken, and you will be missed deeply!
