Larry Entrekin Obituary

ENTREKIN, Larry Ward

Surrounded by family, Larry Ward Entrekin passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 81. Larry was born on September 1, 1944, to Mary (Ward) and Julius Entrekin in Atlanta, where he lived his entire life. He attended Grady High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball and was voted Most Athletic his senior year. He went on to attend Georgia Tech on a baseball scholarship, playing catcher alongside his older brother Ivan, a pitcher.

Larry began his commercial real estate career in 1970; he later joined Carter & Associates, where he reveled in the fraternal atmosphere and made lifelong friends. He eventually started his own commercial real estate firm. He loved real estate and often said it didn't feel like work. Some of his career achievements include assembling the land for the IBM Tower (now known as One Atlantic Center) and the sale of the old Standard Club (now Lenox Park). He was also a successful real estate investor who saw the value in properties in emerging areas. Over the years, he accumulated investments along Pharr Road, West Midtown, and in Pensacola, Florida. He was the proud owner of Morningside Village retail center on North Highland Avenue for decades. Larry was a 40-year Life Member of Capital City Club.

Larry had a personality and laugh that filled a room. He had strong opinions, especially about Georgia Tech sports. He loved golf, live piano music, college football, Boxers (he owned five during his life), and spring-training baseball. He enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams through Buckhead Baseball and Peachtree Road United Methodist Church; he did not particularly care for camping out in dark caves with his daughter's Indian Princess troop, but he did it anyway. He was that rare kind of man who remained close with his ex-spouse, Martha, throughout his life. He was also deeply generous and looked out for the underdogs he came across. Most of all, he adored his family and friends. He was happiest being with them, whether it was having lunch with old friends or hosting his grandchildren for sleepovers and regaling them with bedtime stories late into the night. He found a loving and loyal partner in his wife Kaye; together, they enjoyed golf, travel, listening to music, and having friends and family over to the house.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Kaye; his children, Ward (Allison), Dean, and Christina Merman (Brian); his grandchildren, Greer, Trace, Cole, Beau, and Charlotte (all of whom called Larry by his grandfather name, "Boss"); his brother Ivan (Fran), and their son, Alex. He is also survived by his stepson, William Davis (Wendy), and their children, Will, Jake, and Lauren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mary Entrekin; as well as his nephew, Erik Entrekin.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7, at 2:00 PM, at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church or the American Boxer Charitable Foundation.

So sorry to read of Larry's death. While I have not seen him in years (we moved from Atlanta 33 years ago), we shared Buckhead Baseball for years as I was manager of the Amazin' A's. Enjoyed watching Ward through his journey in baseball. May God grant all of you His peace and comfort.

I loved being with Larry and reminiscing about our days at Grady. I remember at football practice one day when I looked at Larry and his nose was under his eye. It was some kinda hit! I loved our golf outings. He was a kind and generous man. I will miss him. Rest in peace. I love you
