Lewis Gray Obituary

GRAY, Lewis W.

Lewis "Lew" Gray, 88, of Adairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home September 26, 2025, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Born September 27, 1936, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Lewis Willard and Margaret Regina Miller, Lew attended Catholic Central High School and Iowa State University before serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he met and married his wife of nearly 65 years, Nancy Joyce Hoeft.

Lew enjoyed a distinguished 26-year career with IBM, holding leadership and executive roles across the country. In 1976 Lew moved to Atlanta taking on numerous assignments with IBM, including Vice President of Sales and President of both the NMD and SWMD Divisions. During his time in Atlanta Lew pushed through the construction of the IBM Tower in Midtown. Today, known as One Atlantic Center, the tower helped to spur the development of Midtown.

Following his retirement, he and Nancy found joy in restoring and living in Holly Hill, their beloved pre-Civil War home on the square in Roswell. Lew continued to serve on several corporate boards but primarily traveled extensively with Nancy, cherishing time with friends, family, and numerous reunions.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Michael (Cindy); daughter, Elizabeth Lewis (Brian); grandchildren, Danielle Fowler (Jordan), Olivia Jedrzejak (Tyler), and James Lewis; and sister, Regina Garvey (Brian). He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Rose Marie Schwab.

Lew will be remembered for his devotion to family, his leadership, and his love of travel and friendships.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers that gave Lewis such tremendous care and support. Thank you, Njeri, Esther, Joan, Perry, Holly and granddaughter, Danielle.

A small memorial and celebration of life gathering will be held at Magnolia Creek Farms Venue, 1655 Hwy 140 NW, Adairsville, GA on Sunday, November 2 at 2 PM. Casual attire with food and drinks being served.
