Family-Placed Death Notice

WOODEN, Lewis Lewis Phillip (Phil) Wooden passed away suddenly on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Georgia. Phil was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was the only son to Ira and Leomia Wooden. He graduated from Tyner High School in Chattanooga in 1961 and from the University of Tennessee in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He worked with TVA while at UT and then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he was awarded a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. He worked in research and development at Bell Labs in Indianapolis from 1966-1969 and for Hewlett-Packerd in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 1969-1971. He became Division Manager for Scientific Atlanta where he worked from 1971-1984. In 1984 he opened his own business, Phil Wooden Homes in Lawrenceville, GA. He is survived by his wife, Martha S. Wooden; daughter, Susan Wooden Simonds (Matt); sons, Christopher Phillip Wooden (Amanda) and David Thomas Wooden. He has four beautiful grandchildren: Molly, Cooper, and Rosemary Wooden and Samantha Simonds. He has one sister, Jo Ann Wooden Kell, two nephews, Jeff Kell and John Kamman, and two nieces, Elizabeth Shoupe and Nancy Gillespie, as well as several cousins. He was an active charter member of the All Saints Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the building committee, on the pastoral call committee, and as President of the congregation. A Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Phil Wooden will be held Friday, April 6, 2012 at 10AM at All Saints Lutheran Church in Lilburn. Interment will follow at 4:30PM at Lakewood Memory Gardens East, Chattanooga, Tennessee. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 6PM until 8PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. Those desiring may make donations to All Saints Lutheran Church, 722 Rockbridge Road, Lilburn, GA 30047 or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. I was blessed to be his cousin. Phillip was a wonderful person and a great influence to anyone who knew him.
May God wrap His loving arms around his family and friends and give them peace and comfort.
