Louise SNUGGS Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

SNUGGS, Louise Wallen LOUISE WALLEN SNUGGS October 24, 1937 - January 13, 2013 Lou Snuggs, Atlanta, GA, 75. Loving wife and mother of four, grandmother of eight, their "Weezie" went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, January 13. She was the debutante daughter of Andy Howard Wallen, CPA, of Northern Virginia and Mamie Huneycutt Wallen of Appalachia, VA. Her family were founding members of Memorial Baptist Church in Arlington, VA, where she would later meet and marry 54 years ago, John Mason Snuggs. She graduated from John Marshall Grammar School, and Washington and Lee High School. She later graduated with an Associates' Degree in Arts from Mars Hill College in 1957, and in 1959 from George Washington University (BA Education), and in 1981 from Emory University (MA Teaching). The couple enjoyed married life living in Los Angeles (Inglewood) where she began her teaching career. Later, the couple moved to San Diego, then Long Island, NY, and after a short stay in Melbourne, FL, returned to Arlington, VA before settling in Atlanta in 1968 where she became a homemaker raising her four children. She resumed her teaching career in Special Education and later a 2nd & 3rd grade teacher at DeKalb Christian School/Academy from 1973 - 1990. She later taught Special Education at Sylvan Learning Center. Lou began a later career as an Account Manager at Construction Market Data (Reed Elsevier) from 1993 - 2008. Her active retirement included teaching ESL, serving as a leader in support groups and the Nottaway Neighbors Association. She enjoyed music, concerts, and going to the theatre; but, most dear to her were her grandchildren. Learning to walk with her Savior and the positive impact she had on her children and students were the greatest achievements of her life. While in Atlanta, Lou attended with her family: Briarlake Baptist Church, North Atlanta Community Church, Stone Mountain Community Church, Dunwoody Community Church, and most recently First Baptist Church of Atlanta and study groups at Cornerstone Bible Church. Lou will be greatly missed and is survived by the love of her life John Mason Snuggs, Sr., of Marietta, GA; Uncle Johnny Huneycutt of Scottsville, VA; Aunt Launa (Huneycutt) Johnson and her husband Dr. JB Johnson of The Villages, FL; cousins Jay Huneycutt of Mechanicsville, VA, who was the ring bearer at her wedding, his brother Brian Huneycutt of Scottsville, VA, and Sandy Bush Riddle, Esquire, of Fullerton, CA; daughter Susan Louise Snuggs, of Atlanta, GA; son John Mason Snuggs, Jr. and his wife Barbora of Marietta, grandchildren John Mason III, Veronika, and Grace; son James Wallen Snuggs, Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Ooltewah, TN, grandchildren James Wallen, Jr., William, and Olivia; and daughter Sharon Elizabeth Snuggs of Kauai, Hawaii, granddaughters Harmony and Manna Graziano. In lieu of flowers, donations to Georgia Right to Life in her name would be appreciated (www.grtl.org). A celebration of Lou/Weezie's life will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068 (www.jfbc.org), on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2 pm. Hi Snuggs Family, Jack told me how wonderful Louise's funeral was. From his comments it sounded just like her. When I saw her picture and read the obituary I cried. I was amazed at all of the things she did in her life. I knew she was a teacher, but did not realize that she was a special-ed teacher in those early years. I can picture her now working with those children.

She was the first very real and wonderful friend I ever had. I learned so much from her. I came from a country farming family and she came from a city, sofisticated and educated family. But, Louise was different from most people--she embraced all kinds of people and made them feel special. To me she was beautiful inside and out. I am so thankful that God gave me the privilege of knowing her, and that our two families had a chance to get to know each other and to share some good times together. You were all a blessing to us. John, even though we have not been in touch with you for years, we have never forgotten you and your enthusiasm for the Lord.

God bless each of you and may His comfort and peace be with you always.

Our love and prayers, Leon and Betsy
