Lucinda Lewis Obituary

LEWIS (White), Lucinda

Lucinda White Lewis passed peacefully in her sleep, after being surrounded by family in her Atlanta home, on February 23, 2025.

Lucinda White was born in Troy, AL, on May 28,1945. She attended the Gulf Park School for Girls, before earning both bachelor and graduate degrees in education from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was always associated with style and beauty and was fittingly crowned "cutest freshman" at the university. Her accomplishments in education went far beyond her natural beauty and included serving as an adjunct professor at Troy University and a county coordinator for special education services. She would go on to dedicate 25 years to special education and advocacy for vulnerable children.

Lucinda was the co-founder and President of the Interior Arrangement and Design Association, an organization that grew to national scale. Her organization appeared on multiple segments during the early days of Home & Garden Television (HGTV) and other media. She was ahead of her time in the design world creating foundations to what have become entertainment staples in the "before & after " genre. Her contributions to others continued throughout her life. Lucinda served on the board of The Alabama Club and was a member of The Church of the Apostles, a conduit for so much of her charitable work. Lucinda was a founding board member of One Hundred Shares, a Christ centered organization that provides life changing grants and support to families in need.

She contracted Multiple Myeloma in 2000. While battling this disease over 25 years, she provided counsel to those newly diagnosed giving them both valuable information and hope.

These are only a few examples of the many ways she lived her life to help others and deeply impacted so many people. She was a devoted wife of 44 years and a second mother and grandmother to her nieces and nephews. Her wit and positivity were with her until the very end and her influence will continue to be felt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Armstrong White and Lucy White Stewart. She is survived by her husband, William Douglas Lewis; her sister, Evelyn White Evins; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Apostles, 3585 Northside Pkwy., in Atlanta, on March 17, at 11:00 AM, with a reception following at the church. Donations can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society or One Hundred Shares.

It breaks my heart to lose my sweet friend who welcomed me to Troy when I didn’t know anyone in 1952. Her sparkle lit up our classes at school and Sunday school! She will be greatly missed but she’s with her beloved angels now.

Lucinda was a pleasure to know and have as a friend. She was a lovely talented, smart and gracious lady with great wit. She will be missed by many friends and loved ones. To know her was to love her.
My prayers and blessings go out to Doug and her sister, Evelyn and family. It has been a joy to know Lucinda and her family.

Lucinda was such a warm and friendly person the minute I met her in a Bible Class that she was a significant part of through the teaching by Sally Howard for many years.
I am shocked at learning of her death. Blessings follow her through her legacy! She will be missed!
