I met Michael as a grad student at UGA. Everything said and written about Michael was as true in 1978 as it is today. We had many discussions/debates about philosophy, religion and college football. I always came out on the losing end. Michael was an amazing person and enriched the lives of countless others.

Judge Michael Clarke was definitely one of a kind, a great legal mind and an amazing sense of humor with such great compassion for all people from all walks of life. I loved appearing in his courtroom even when the outcome was not what I wanted. I always knew it would be fair. I especially enjoyed connecting with him after his retirement and mediation cases and hearing about his wonderful life with his beloved Lisa and wonderful family. He will be missed by so many people who loved him. His motto of do it now it's later than you think has had such an impact on all of us. Our love and prayers to Lisa and their family.

I was also a classmate of Michael and we both moved from Athens to Rome (following the course of history, we often remarked) to clerk for judges in Rome. While we were clerking for judges in Rome we formed a lawyer's baseball team which, as I recall, lost every game we played for two years, because it was not a lawyer's league, but a league full of young men who were probably heading for the major leagues and were just using us as punching bags. Among Mike's various talents, i should add that he was really a remarkably good baseball player, though not good enough to make up the other eight starting players.
We'll miss you Mike.

It was my pleasure to know Mike Clark for forty years, as a fellow student of religion, fellow member of the UGA School of Law class of 1980, fellow member of the State Bar of Georgia, and a fellow Georgia Bulldog fan. It was my honor to work with him on a case last year and my privilege to witness him fight the good fight over the last five months with dignity, courage, and good humor. Mike has left a void in the hearts of many whose lives were better for having known him. I will miss my brother Michael and pray for blessings upon Lisa and Katie.
