N. Appel Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

APPEL, N. Boyce N. Boyce Appel, 71, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away December 7, 2009 after a determined battle with cancer. Boyce was born in St. Louis, Missouri the second son of Reva and Mel Appel. His parents have since deceased, as has his brother Bill. He is survived by Jeannie, his wife of 46 years, and their children Craig and Lauren. Their oldest daughter, Julie Appel Pyle, passed away in 1993. At 17 years old, Boyce began working in the mailroom at Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida. Over the next 17 years he worked his way up the ranks to airplane mechanic and then into training and development. After receiving his MBA from Colombia University in 1973, he started Appel Associates in Miami. Boyce moved to the Atlanta area in 1977 and continued his long and rewarding career working with people and their organizations across the country, helping them reach their potential. He gave much of himself, working pro bono for the City of Atlanta Law Department, Mayor Shirley Franklin, and others. His vision inspired those he worked with to not just be clients, but friends. He was a member for twenty-five years of the Woodlands Group, a professional organization focused on furthering study of individual, organizational, and societal change, as well as being a personal and professional support group for its members. Boyce inspired many with his love of family and passion for life, with his leadership, dignity, and humor. He embraced peace in all aspects of life and energized others to share his devotion. He and Jeannie were avid scuba divers, and travelled to exotic diving spots around the world. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Julie Appel Pyle Foundation, at B.O.N.D. Community FCU, 433 Moreland Ave. NE, Atlanta, Ga. Please contact the family for information regarding the service.

I learned so much from Boyce. His acceptance, his willingness to be deeply and personally involved, his humor, and his never moving away from a disagreement -- especially with someone he cared about. I will miss that big brain, that warm smile, and that huge heart.

Our thoughts to Jeanne, Craig, and Lauren...and to Jackie.
