Nancy FOREMAN Obituary

FOREMAN, Nancy Nancy L. Foreman, 68, of Brookhaven, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at Emory/St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. Nancy Foreman was a faithful servant of God and carried in her heart all her family and every friend she ever had. She was kind, generous, hilariously funny, a loyal friend and a brave, sweet soul. She was a quiet voice in a storm and a loud voice of laughter. She could light up a room with her smile and she took no prisoners when interrupted from a serious task. Her sense of humor was sometimes silly, always sharp and totally infectious. She had a natural inclination to authentically and genuinely put others first. She loved Monty Python movies and quoted scenes in a perfect English accent. She made you feel special and comfortable. She proved her sense of adventure when she first paddled the Chattooga River in the dead of winter. Road trips were a staple of her life, traveling far and wide, but never, ever by plane. She knew much about her friends and family and remained extremely private about herself. She may have been the most stubborn person around, but when called on it, her eyes twinkled and she would say simply, "I'm a Taurus." She adored her cats Steely Dan and Emma, collected folk art, listened to diverse music styles, and listed Tina Turner, Steve Goodman, bluegrass and jazz as favorites. Nancy was a passionate photographer, which she learned from her dad in childhood. She joined the photo staffs of The Neighbor Newspapers, The Marietta Daily Journal and retired from The Atlanta Journal Constitution after 21 years. At the AJC she masterfully juggled deadline pressures, equipment issues, unique personalities, unexpected demands of editors, came to the rescue of many, and was always willing to jump in and help, sometimes off the radar, in any jam or crisis. Most of all Nancy loved to laugh and that was her best medicine of all in, at times, a very difficult job. Nancy was born in Germany post-WWII, first touching U.S. soil when she was 3 years old. She attended The Academy of Richmond County and graduated from Augusta College. She was a member of The Cathedral of Christ the King. She regularly attended Sunday evening Mass, where she particularly enjoyed the contemporary music. Faith was her foundation, her rock. She leaves to cherish her memory life-long friends Jayne Garrett Black and Dianne Poulas Yost of Augusta, caregivers Donna Tanner Flake, Leita Cowart, Judy Ondrey, spiritual friends John Spink and Tami Chappell all of Atlanta and a host of family and friends. Nancy was a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a cousin of the heart to the families of McCall, Williams, Tanner and Peek. She loved and was deeply loved by her families of Foreman, Dalzell, McKenzie, Congo, Preston, Peters and Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mary West Foreman Nancy is survived by her dear friend Laine McCall, brother Jack (Jerrye) Foreman, sister Millie (Stewart) Dalzell, nieces and nephew: Maria Foreman, Pam (Gregg) McKenzie, Nancy (Dale) Congo, Stewart IV (Leigh) Dalzell, Priscilla (Tommy) Preston. grandnieces and grandnephews: Carmen Ellis, Medhi Maaninou, Jeffery McKenzie, Brittany Powers, Kyle McKenzie, Ana, Aaron, Caitlin Congo, Jessie Peters, Stewart Dalzell VI, Jamieson Dalzell, Mackenzie, Jett Preston, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephew: Kayla, Jaxson Peters, Ezra Kate Dalzell, and Stella Rose Powers. Funeral Mass at 10:30, Monday Sept. 14 at The Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta 30305. 678 223-0505. She has had a special place in my youthful memories.. Sadly, I did not keep up with her, until recently, and now I find time has run out ...

I splashed and laughed many a noontime with this happy gal in the Y pool. Her infections laugh and special kind qualities struck me from the first. I knew she was a follower of Christ by the way she loved and cared for us all. Rest in Peace in Christ! We will miss that happy face.

Nancy was a special friend to those of us who were lucky to have worked with her at the AJC, and even luckier to have known her in the years after she retired. Her life was too short but her friends were many. We love her and miss her.
