Paul Rubenstein Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

RUBENSTEIN, Paul PAUL SCOTT RUBENSTEIN Paul Scott Rubenstein, 52, passed away gently in his sleep on the morning of May 18, 2008 after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving parents, Jack and Lynn Rubenstein of West Bloomfield Hills, MI; his dear sister Iris Newsome; and niece and nephews, Eliza, Jeffrey and Barry Newsome of Denver, CO; first wife, Kuren Dopson of Smyrna, GA; long-time partner, Barbara McLain and his stepdaughter, Caitlin McLain of Marietta, GA. His extended family also included Don and Lisa McLain Brown of Augusta, GA and Kelly McLain and Jennifer Wiedle of Oro Valley, AZ. Paul was extremely proud of the Communications degree that he earned at American University, Washington, DC. After early jobs in radio, he worked most of his life in computer programming, advertising and sales and client support. Many business contacts over the years became a part of his circle of friends. Although he did not believe he was defined by his work, a job well done was certainly his passion. He was famously fond of New York-style sesame bagels, jars of jellybeans, rare prime rib and the annual pursuit of egg matzoh. He was equally passionate about Opus and Bill comic strips, Harlan Coben, James Patterson and Jeffrey Deaver novels and the incomparable Blues Brothers, Billy Joel, James Taylor and Elton John. In recent years Paul found fellowship with many new friends who fondly remember his off-kilter sense of humor and a new-found search for spirituality. He will be greatly missed by the Saturday Night Live gang that gathered weekly at the Vinings firehouse-especially Phil, Greg, Leanne, Peaches, Jay, Elaine and Stan who were a large part of his widening family circle. Paul would want to be remembered proudly as a friend of Bill W. Services were privately held at Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care in Atlanta. In remembrance, donations should be made to The Extension, 1507 Church Street Extension, P.O. Box 793, Marietta, GA 30061. Please sign on-line guestbook at www.edressler.com. I know in my heart that you were waiting with a smile and supportive arm for Mom when she passed away last week. She loved you so much and enjoyed having your St. Paddy's Day picture together in a prominent place in her room. We all love and miss you dearly - you can't imagine how much we wish you were here to see the twins. Please help take care of Mom and watch over Caitlin this summer when your anniversary comes around.

I cannot believe that it's been almost a year. There is something that happens every day that reminds me of you... sometimes I cry, mostly I laugh. I hope you know you had that gift. May God hold you close and his love bring you eternal happiness.

We were very sorry to hear of Paul passing away. We met Paul at Lisa's UGA graduation in 1997. He was smart and funny, with a dry sense of humor. We had not seen him in awhile, but we kept up with him through Lisa and Donald. We are sorry for your loss, and we will keep your family and friends in our prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Paul's family who are grieving. I will always remember Paul as a very tender and caring person who only wanted happiness for himself and those around him. I know that Paul is resting peacefully with his Higher Power and is in a far better place than this world could offer. Good bye for now Paul but only until we meet again in eternity!!!

Dear Rubenstein Family,
I wanted to express my deepest sympathy for the lost of Paul. It seems so unfair that death should have the power to take away someone you love. The scriptures help us to appreciate there will come a time when no resident will say I am sick (Isaiah 33:24). May the peace of God be with you and your family. Pam Mason
