Family-Placed Death Notice

COOL, Robert ROBERT COOL Robert Cool succumbed to cancer at his home in Sandy Springs, GA on October 2nd, 2009. He was 83. Bob was born to Rose and Ernest Cool in Lynn, MA where he graduated valedictorian of his HS class. He served in the Navy during WWII and graduated from the U of Maine in 1949 where he met his wife, Eleanor, of Saco, ME. He had a 36 yr. professional career with General Electric in financial management, retiring in 1984. Family, music, church, golf and sports were the spice of Bob's life, all sprinkled with a great sense of humor. He was a lifelong Presbyterian and a 34 yr. member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir for most of that time. A tenor, Bob loved to sing and was a fan of close harmony. Singing backup with Louis Armstrong in his college quartet was a fond memory. Bob sang in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under the leadership of Robert Shaw for many years. His last musical thrill was attending the Four Freshman Convention in Atlanta in August. Bob was an avid golfer and 30+yr. member of Horseshoe Bend CC. He volunteered at Northside Hospital and supported the Salvation Army and many other charities. Bob is survived by his wife, Eleanor, to whom he was happily married for 60 years; children, Janet Cool-Hagmaier of Estancia, NM (Ladd); Linda Cool Larson of Bettendorf, IA (David); Raymond Cool of Cincinnati, OH (Kristin); Robert Cool of Alpharetta (Terri);12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 3 nieces. A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at Peachtree Presbyterian Church at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. Thanks to all of the wonderful relatives, friends, neighbors, and choir members who have supported Bob and Eleanor during these past months of illness. God bless you and keep you!
