Robert Dale DePOY

1926 - 2015

DePOY, Robert Dale Robert Dale DePoy, son of Hollie H. and Lois Dial DePoy, died of esophageal cancer on August 17, 2015. He was born on October 19, 1926 in Columbia City, Indiana. He served as a member of the Army Band in World War II. He attended Indiana University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. He was an active and long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church in College Park where he and his beloved wife Barbara sang in the choir. His career included playing French horn in the first Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, teaching music at Headland High School, and as manager in computer operations at Delta Air Lines for over 25 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Joanne Hoey, and his brother, Hollie H. DePoy, Jr. He is survived by his three children, Phillip John DePoy and his wife Lee Nowell of Decatur, GA; Scott Eric DePoy and his wife Jeannette Burckhardt Block of Atlanta, GA and Mary Claire DePoy of Watkinsville, GA. He has one grandchild, Holly Maeve Mixon, who was his greatest treasure. A world-class conversationalist, Bob could talk to anyone on any topic. He loved traveling, theatre, music and spending time with family and friends. There will be a memorial service in the chapel at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm. His body was donated to Emory University School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Polio Children or a favorite charity.
