Family-Placed Death Notice

ROBERT IRVING GRESHAMMr. Gresham was sold proprietor of Gresham's Flowers for a quarter of a century after having worked in the family flower business for over twenty years. Gresham's Flowers was Atlanta's foremost florists for several decades, providing arrangements for church services, society events and family occassions for over three quarters of a century. Mr. Gresham passed away on Wednesday, Novemeber 24, 2004. He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Orme Gresham. From that marriage he helped her rear two children, Orme and Jack. An Honorary Life Member of the Piedmont Driving Club, Mr. Gresham also belonged to the Rotary Club where he was a presence for several decades and served for a year as Sergeant at Arms. Mr. Gresham was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 332nd Squadrom of the Fourth Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force. Having graudated from the Riverside Military Academy in 1939 he was eligible for officer training and rose to the rank of Lt. Col., serving in England, France and Belgium during the Allied invasion of Europe. The Fourth Fighter Group was the highest scoring U.S. Air Force Group in WWII-1052 enemy aircraft destroyed. Surviving him are his son, John S. Gresham of Atlanta, and his sisters Eloise Witham of Atlanta and Juanita Mitchell of Roswell. Mr. Gresham enriched every life that he touched, whether in his personal or professional life and he will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues. His family wished to thank those who helped take care of him during his elderly years. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 29th at 11:00 A.M. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree St., Atlanta. Interment at Oakland Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made in his memory to the Center for the Visually Impaired, 763 Peachtree St., N.E. Atlanta, GA 30308.
