Sean Dwyer Obituary

DWYER, Sean Patrick

Sean Patrick Dwyer died on August 12, 2025, at the age of 53. Sean was born June 24, 1972, the second of four sons born to Terry Leite Chandler and John Matthew Dwyer, Jr. The 'Dwyer Boys' (Matthew, Sean, Ryan, Kevin) and 'Dwyer Sister' (Carlin) all grew up in Atlanta. Sean was a graduate of Christ the King, Marist School, and the University of Georgia. He left Georgia to earn an MBA from Harvard Business School, but returned to Atlanta upon graduation, where he curated a thriving business career. His commitment to people, hard work, professionalism, and ethical leadership was unrivaled.

Sean Dwyer was a powerful organizer of philanthropy, preferring to do so without recognition. Among his many accomplishments are the Cherokee Employee Scholarship Foundation, which provides support to employees and their family members seeking higher education, and the Meci Byrd Children's Trust, which Sean personally established to help care for the children of a beloved Cherokee employee who died too young. Cherokee Town and Country Club was dear to Sean's heart, and it gave him great joy to give back to the place that gave so much to him. He was a longtime member of the Missing Links golf group, with whom he played on a regular basis. Cherokee was an important part of his life, and it would be difficult to find an employee or a member who did not know and love Sean Dwyer.

Sean spread his joy well beyond the grounds of Cherokee. He was a regular at many special places in Atlanta and South Florida. Sean did not just patronize these places, he became a part of them. He made it a point to get to know the people. He knew their names, and he knew their stories. They were important to him. He recognized what many may overlook: it is the people who are important.

Sean was a cherished son, brother, nephew, and cousin. But of all the roles that he played, the one that brought him the greatest joy was that of being 'Uncle Sean.' He was profoundly proud of his nieces and nephews. As they grew, he delighted in their accomplishments and emerging personalities. He was so much more than an uncle to them. He was a perfect role model, an encouraging mentor, and a true friend. His passing leaves a hole in their hearts that will be felt for the rest of their lives.

Sean will be forever cherished by his mother, Terry Chandler (Drake Chandler); his father, John Matthew Dwyer, Jr. (Pam Jennings); and his siblings: John Matthew Dwyer III, Ryan (Sage) Dwyer, Kevin (Dawn) Dwyer, and Carlin (Brian) Berzanskis. Sean's legacy lives on through his nieces and nephews: John 'Johnny' Matthew Dwyer IV, William Dwyer, Devin Dwyer, Jacqueline 'Jackie' Dwyer, Dylan Dwyer, Nicolette 'Nicki' Dwyer, Juliet Dwyer, Madison Jennings, and Walter Elias 'Eli' Berzanskis. Sean also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, on September 9, 2025, at the Cathedral of Christ the King. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cherokee Employee Scholarship Foundation (CESF) or the Cherokee Caddie Scholarship Foundation, Attention: Ryan Dwyer, 2100 Riveredge Parkway, Suite 700, Atlanta, GA 30328.
