Steven Erle FANNING Sr.

1944 - 2018

FANNING, Sr., Steven Erle Mr. Steven Erle Fanning, Sr., 73, of Grantville, Ga., passed away February 4, 2018. He was born August 20, 1944. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy and The University of Georgia where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity and ROTC. He was Captain in Intelligence in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star with V Device and the Air Medal. Steve earned a Juris Doctorate Law Degree from UGA then set up a 43 year Law practice in Newnan. He was very active in his community and farm, BSA, and Woodward Academy Parents Club. He was elected to The Top 100 Georgia Super Lawyer's List. He was a Renaissance man and enjoyed his daughters debuting with Phoenix Debutante Society as equally as working the farm with his son. He loved his family but especially doting on his Grandsons. Steve lived life to the fullest, always with a humorous take. Steve was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newnan where the funeral will take place on Saturday, February 17 at 11am. Visitation will be Friday February 16 at McKoon Funeral Home 6-8pm. Survivors include his wife, Diane Fanning; son, Steven Fanning, Jr., daughters, Merideth Gilmor (Mark), Ansley Thoma (Kevin); grandsons, Colin Gilmor and Caldwell Thoma.
