STATON (Glenn), Sue

Sue Glenn Staton died Friday, September 20, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with cancer. She was born on September 3, 1938, in Columbus, Georgia, to Mary and Hunter Glenn.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John C. Staton, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Cowles; her two children, John C. Staton, III (Maggie) and Wendy Staton Burge (Bill); and her six cherished grandchildren, John C. Staton, IV, Hailey Staton, Caki Staton, Sadie Burge, Hunter Burge, and Holt Burge. She also leaves behind three nephews.

A graduate of Columbus High School and Huntington College, Sue moved to Atlanta to teach at Sagamore Hills Elementary. In 1964, she married the love of her life, John, after meeting on a blind date. A devoted partner, Sue supported John throughout his career at King and Spalding, warmly welcoming new families into their community. Sue also supported John's love and devotion to Georgia Tech. One of her biggest joys was being named a Georgia Tech Honorary Alumna.

An incredible gardener, Sue had a deep passion for plants and flowers, creating beautiful planters and sharing her extensive knowledge with others. She was a long-time member of the Northwood Garden Club.

Known for her beauty, witty remarks and infectious smile, she never met a stranger and brought joy to everyone she encountered.

Sue volunteered at Egleston Children's Hospital. She enjoyed her involvement with A Million Matters group and her Georgia Tech group, the Bees. She was a lover of information and read everything she could get her hands on. She had a wealth of knowledge about any and all subjects.

She was a constant presence in her children's and grandchildren's lives. She instilled her good values in all of us. Sue made countless memories with her grandchildren through trips to Jalisco's, Baskin-Robbins, cheering at sporting events, and attending every special occasion.

She and John had a special tradition of dining at Houston's at West Paces Ferry, every Sunday, where they formed lasting friendships with the staff who took incredible care of them.

We would like to thank her caregivers and her floor at Peachtree Hills Place for their love and support over the last few years.

Please join the family to celebrate Sue's remarkable life on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Northside Methodist Church at 2 PM, with a reception to follow at the church.
